anadians should be proud CPrince William and his new bride will visit this summer: But we should also know what it's going to cost us. The prime minister announced this week Prince William and Kate Middleton will visit Canada as part of their honeymoon in June and July. But news of the visit was greeted by the rumblings of some people who seem to think the Queen and her brood are akin to a royal deadweight around our necks. The Wmdsors sure can get Canadian knickers in a knot.

But concern about the cost of this visit does not automatically equal anti-monarchist sentiment. The common anti-royalist retort is: "Who cares about the royals?" A hell of a lot of people care, actually. For crying out loud, it's hoped and expected the royal wed ding will help pull the City of London out of its recessionary slump as royal watchers flood in and fill hotels and restaurants.
