in this issue... our stories meeting the needs of our clients during uncertain times celebrating motherhood “ALL THAT I AM OR EVER HOPE TO BE, I OWE TO MY ANGEL MOTHER." ABRAHAM LINCOLN

others are a true gift from God! With Mother’s Day approaching, this spring Mnewsletter is dedicated to moms - especially the beautiful mothers EPS serves every day, even amidst the pandemic. COVID-19 is presenting new and unique challenges in our service delivery, and we’re finding solutions because vulnerable women who are pregnant and in crisis need us now more than ever! The EPS staff is working tirelessly to adjust and respond to the growing levels of anxiety among our clients. In addition to the threat of the virus, abortion advocates are working to expand chemical abortion access through telemedicine to accommodate stay-at-home orders. It is critical for EPS to address these issues head on and to reach as many women as we can when they first learn they are pregnant.

EPS is the life-affirming, compassionate, and loving alternative to abortion. And our Maple Village center – located next door to an abortion provider – is perfectly positioned for this battle for life. As you read this newsletter, please prayerfully consider ways to partner with us this month as we address both the abortion and COVID-19 crises. Your partnership inspires us and makes it possible for staff to keep operating on the front lines. We appreciate your generosity, and hold you close in our prayers. Best,

JOIN US FOR VIRTUAL TEATIME

you're invited For many years, the EPS Auxiliary has had a significant presence at many churches in the Omaha metro on Mother's Day as they hosted a successful fundraiser FRIDAY, MAY 8 for the mission. With a donation to EPS, the Auxiliary handed out beautiful red roses giving families the opportunity to honor their mothers in a special way. 9AM to 10AM Although we cannot host the same event this year, a pandemic cannot keep us from celebrating the gift of motherhood with our community! And so, with great joy, we invite you to honor your mother at our virtual EPS Teatime!

I'm excited for teatime with EPS! How can I register my mom & myself?

Using the enclosed envelope, we invite you to make a donation – in any amount – in honor or in memoriam of your mother or a special woman you adore. Six years ago her mom, Maria (pictured above), turned to EPS for help during a difficult time while pregnant with her daughter, Eva. Now a vibrant, intelligent five-year-old, Eva’s future is full of possibilities. A talented, budding piano player, Eva already speaks two languages and her creative imagination is immediately apparent as her stuffed toy fox, “Trixie,” keeps stealing candy from the front counter candy dish. As Eva made her way down to the boutique where her mom received much needed help years ago, her voice squealed with excitement as she saw the clothes and toys throughout the room. “I think the babies will like all this stuff! The babies will have so much fun with these toys!” And as she spotted some blankets folded on the shelves, she added, “I think the babies will be really warm!” Maria fondly remembers her time at EPS, which became like a second home to her. After becoming pregnant and realizing she and her husband did not have the means to provide for their child, she came across EPS while on her way to a concert. Soon after discovering our free services, Maria immersed herself in EPS classes and shopped often in the boutique. “I think the people at EPS are very supportive. They are like family,” says Maria. Maria also found a support system in EPS that she was missing after moving to the United States from Russia in 2012. “I always miss my mom and I think that support from her would be helpful, but I had EPS,” she says. “I learned so much in those classes.”

We are living in unprecedented times and facing hardships resulting from the COVID-19 crisis. This environment is greatly affecting the women we serve, who are most vulnerable and seeking answers to unexpected pregnancies. Even though we may not be able to gather face-to-face for some of our traditional fellowship and fundraising activities, we know with your prayerful generosity EPS can provide much-needed support to the women depending on us.

We had a record-breaking attendance of over 900 guests listen to the inspirational message of keynote speaker Shawn Carney. Thanks to the generosity of support- ers and the hard work of many, the event raised approximately $260,000. Our sincere thanks to YOU for your support through donations to the auction, attendance at the event and volunteer assistance. We also thank our volunteer Board of Directors for their extraordinary efforts, to our master of ceremonies, Aimee Melton, and to the EPS Auxiliary with whom we honored with this year’s Spirit of EPS Award! For the past 45 years, the EPS Auxiliary has been the heartbeat and backbone of EPS. In just the past 20 years alone, they have raised nearly 1.6 million dollars for EPS! Past and present members were honored for their commitment to fulfilling the mission of EPS through the life-giving works of their words, talents and prayers. At GLOW, a special tribute and rose presentation was made in recognition of the 12 Auxiliary presidents in attendance at the dinner for their outstanding volunteer efforts over the years. Also in attendance was Dick Hautzinger, the husband of the late Joanie Hautzinger who served as the Auxiliary’s first president in 1975. His memorable remarks and touching donation, matching the first ever check presented to EPS from the Auxiliary fundraising efforts, spoke to the heart of the Auxiliary and had the audience on their feet in appreciation of this special group of ladies.
