B. auf die zunehmende Kom- Figuren des digitalen Widerstands merzialisierung des Netzes hinzuweisen. Seitdem hat sich mit dem sogenannten „Internet Vigilantism“ (oder „Digilantism“) ein radikaler Online-Aktivismus entwickelt. Die Ausstellung fragt, was Hacktivis- ten, Whistleblower und (Internet-)Vigilanten verbindet. Wie sehen die Rechtsvorstellungen der unterschiedlichen Akteure aus? Gibt es Gemeinsamkeiten? Wer spricht und handelt für wen und im Sinne welches (höheren) Rechts? Ein Schwerpunkt der Ausstellung wird insbesondere auf den unterschiedlichen Rechtsvorstellungen und Selbstlegitimierungsstrategien liegen, mit denen die Akteure – seien es Aktivisten, Whistleblower, Hacker, Onlineaktivisten oder Künstler – ihr Handeln begründen. Since this time, the radical strand of online activism called ‘internet vigilantism’ or simply ‘digilantism’ has been thriving. The exhibition asks what links hacktivists, whistleblowers and (Internet) vigilantes. What is the legal understanding of these different actors? Do they share certain conceptions? Who speaks and acts for whom and in the capacity of which (higher) law? Among other issues the exhibition will examine the differing legal conceptions and strategies of self-legitimisation put forth by activists, WHISTLEBLOWERS & VIGILANTES whistleblowers, hackers, online activists and artists to justify their actions. The first tweet ever sent from our initial domicile in the Humboldt-Universität at Bebelplatz said: “office space launched, coffee, music and people still lacking”. That was in October 2011. Less than a year later, we had already expanded so much that our spacious office became too small to accommodate all of us. The research- ers had to move out and leave the management behind. Our new office at Hausvogteiplatz started with one single floor. Roughly three years later, we have almost taken over the whole building. The latest arrival at ‘HVP’ is our management team. While we are a bit sentimental about gradually abandoning the much beloved Bebelplatz office, we are very happy to have all HIIG people re-united under one roof. 2014 was a very busy year for us with a great many activities and results. In our second edition of encore, we are presenting again a cross section of our work. Unlike last year, however, we are highlighting three themes around Internet and society that proved to be particularly important for us. The ongoing revelations about pervasive surveillance on the Internet directly intersect with the Global Privacy Governance project of the research area Global Constitutional- ism.

The fusion of right- wing (post-truth) politics, subversive tactics and popular cul- tures is already in progress. Scams are a form of online fraud by which individuals are lured into paying money upfront in expectation of a financial reward or inheritance of some sort. The victims are promised to be paid out a certain amount of money after making an advance payment. The website 419eater is committed to denouncing and preventing this particular kind of fraud. It collects images sent by fraudsters to their victims to establish their identity and thereby validate their claims. 419eater also names and shames online fraudsters.
