Following the race, trainer Michael Yates said he was not sur- prised by the close finish and revealed his prophetic conservation with Marilyn Campbell in early July after each had completed their first victories. “After they broke their maidens, Mrs. Campbell asked me which one I liked best,” Yates said. “I said, ‘Personally, at this point,’ I feel like we have the exacta. I don’t know which one’s the best.’ “It’s quite a thrill. [The Campbells] have been such a big part in the Florida breeding industry. To be a part of the team is an honor, for sure.” Both Cajun’s Magic and a Dean Delivers are by Cajun Breeze, who Yates trained and co-owned owned with Robert Eversole at the end of the stallion’s racing career. Cajun Breeze is now co- owned by the Campbells and has stood throughout his tenure as a stallion at their Stonehedge Farm South in Williston. “It’s pretty surreal. [Cajun Breeze] is throwing some nice horses. I think the best is yet to come from him,” Yates said. “His first cou- ple crops, he had some pretty small numbers from some pretty or- dinary mares. • Delaware Agricultural Statistics Service, for His Hard Work in Designing, Implementing, Evaluating This Study and Preparing It for Publication
Dear Friend of Delaware Agriculture: I am very pleased and proud to present the results of the 2004 Delaware Equine Study, the first ever comprehensive study of this important segment of our agricultural industry. I want to thank Governor Ruth Ann Minner, the Delaware General Assembly, the racing commissions, and the Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund for providing the funding for this project. I also want to thank the Delaware Equine Council for their help and each and every person who voluntarily participated in this very important study. As clearly shown by the numbers contained within this report, the equine industry’s importance to Delaware’s economy is significant and growing. In addition to the expenditures Delaware equine owners and operations make into the state economy, our racetracks, equine show and competition facilities, breeding, training, and boarding operations attract thousands from outside of Delaware who also expend significantly into our state economy. Not only does the industry directly provide jobs for thousands of Delawareans, but also indirectly through expenditures made for feed and bedding, veterinarian services, equipment, grooming and tack supplies, maintenance and repair and other sectors of the industry’s infrastructure. Equine and equine operations make significant contributions to the quality of life in Delaware by keeping land in open space, and providing a wide diversity of recreational activities available to the general public. As spectators or participants, countless Delawareans enjoy equine racing, shows and competitions, pony rides, trail and pleasure riding, and much more. For many, the view of Delaware from atop a horse is the best one. I know firsthand how important equines are and have been socially and recreationally to my family and to the quality of life of many others in Delaware.

(Friday, June 19, 2020) – Live Oak Plantation’s 2019 Wise Dan (Grade II) winner March to the Arch will attempt a repeat victory in Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile turf event but needs to rebound from a puzzling 10th-place effort in last month’s Grade I Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita. “I’ve only been around him for a little while but you’d have to assume he just didn’t like it in California,” trainer Mark Casse’s locally based assistant David Carroll said. “It was just such a puzzling effort where he didn’t show much run at all. The thing of it is, his form in all of his previous races was very good. He’s run some very nice efforts over the last year that if you draw a line through that race, he fits right in with this field. We know what he did in last year’s race and hopefully he can run right back to that effort once again.” Saturday’s $200,000 Wise Dan presented by Ford (GII) is the featured event on the 11-race program and will go as Race 9 at 5:01 p.m. (all times Eastern) The race will share the stakes spotlight with the inaugural running of the $100,000 Audubon presented by TwinSpires.com at 1 1/8 miles on turf for 3-year-olds.

  • Ward Confident He=Ll Have Another Successful Royal
TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2019 LETTER FROM ASCOT: FUGETABOUTIT! WARD CONFIDENT by Dave Johnson HE=LL HAVE ANOTHER The day before the Royal Meeting at Ascot begins, it is all about the humans who will be working over the prestigious five- SUCCESSFUL ROYAL ASCOT day spectacle. Some in top hat and tails, some in jockey silks. Many have pointed their skills, their horses, their hats and their bankrolls to this week in June. As for the jockey ranks, my humble feeling is that William Buick is the best rider in the world today. He has been a major winner at this meeting, as well as at Arlington, Belmont Park and Breeders' Cup events. He was injured one month ago at Ascot, when Sir Busker (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) unseated him in the parade to the post. He is suffering post head-injury syndrome. Tough with no date to return, since he had G1 Epsom Derby winner Masar (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and G1 Melbourne Cup champ Cross Counter (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) as his intended mounts. This subtraction of Buick is an addition for James Doyle, but even with those added Buick mounts, I don't think he can win more Royal Ascot races than Ryan Moore, since Moore is the go-to rider for Aidan O'Brien. And neither do the bookies. Bound For Nowhere, shown here winning the 2018 GII Shakertown S., Moore and O'Brien are so favored that the price is 11-10 that is one of a strong Royal Ascot team for trainer Wesley Ward | Coady they both will win jockey and trainer titles though this Saturday By Bill Finley evening.
