The World Championship events, like most IRONMAN events during the pandemic, were affected by postponements and cancellations that have created an impact on future year capacity numbers for the IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3. As we look to accommodate 2020 athletes while continuing to offer slots to athletes racing in qualifying events in 2021 and beyond, it is necessary to place a limit onthe ability ofathletes to accept aslotwithoutany intention ofracing inthe currentyear.

As a result, a policy hasbeen designed to address where the deferral option will and will not apply to athletes. This relates to athletes who qualified for the cancelled 2020 Championship events, athletes who have already qualified for 2021 and athletes who may qualify for future races in 2021.

The policy applies to athletes based on their region ofresidence, regardless ofthe location ofthe event in which they qualified. I encourage you to read the section for your region, but the most important point to keep in mind isthat asofApril 10, athletes who accept a spot for the 2021 IRONMAN Supersapiens World Championship, or the 2021 IRONMAN 70.3 Intermountain Healthcare World Championship presented by the Utah Sports Commission, will not beeligible for a future postponement due totravel restrictions or personal "discomfort", meaning that if they accept a slot, they must intend to race the Championship in 2021.
