2017 Summerfest Story Ideas Music • Love Milwaukee’s music scene? There is plenty of opportunity to “stay local” at this year’s festival. Summerfest loves to give local bands the opportunity to play the Big Gig. Milwaukee (or Milwaukee based) talent fills all 11 days of Summerfest, featuring: o Voila (June 28 - 6:30 PM @ Miller Lite Oasis Stage) o Eagle Trace (June 28 – 6:30 PM @ Uline Warehouse Stage) o Dead Horses (July 1 - 8:00 PM @ Johnson Control's World Stage) o Painted Caves (July 2 - 4:00 PM @ Harley-Davidson Roadhouse) o IshDarr (July 4 - 10:00 PM @ Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard) o Shonn Hinton & Shotgun (July 5 - 6:30 PM @ Uline Warehouse Stage) o Lex Allen (July 6 - 8:00 PM @ Johnson Control's World Stage) o Tigernite (July 7 - 7:00 PM @ Miller Lite Oasis Stage) o Trapper Schoepp (July 8 - 8:00 PM @ Uline Warehouse Stage) o Nora Collins (July 9 - 8:00 PM @ Miller Lite Oasis Stage) • The Emerging Artists Series is back again with more new artists thanks to the partnership with 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. The Johnson Controls World Sound Stage will host the series once again this year, highlighting emerging talent each evening from 3:00 – 7:30 pm with the opportunity for fans to vote for their favorite performances. Some artists who’ve played in past series have gone on to become well known in the music industry, including Nathaniel Rateliff (now of Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats), Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s, X Ambassadors, The Mowgli’s, Walk The Moon, MisterWives, Maren Morris and more! Who will be the next rock star? • Rockonsin is a Garage Band Competition for 7th - 12th graders in Wisconsin. Finalists will be competing June 29 and 30 on the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage with the final round taking place at the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard Stage on July 9. The winner and runner-up will receive a professional recording session at Madison’s Blast House Studios and the ability to play a second set at Summerfest. The winning band will also represent Rockonsin at the 2017 Vans Warped Tour on July 24. • School of Rock has partnered with Summerfest to allow over sixty student bands from around the world to play onstage at the “World’s Largest Music Festival.” Select bands will perform with world renowned musicians at the final event on July 9th at the BMO Harris Pavilion. Each year School of Rock teaches over 25,000 students across 9 countries and 200 locations. Through a unique performance-based approach, students are guided from the lesson room to the stage where they play real shows at authentic venues with their peers! What’s New? • Explore everything Summerfest has to offer and stop by the American Family Insurance Experience. This innovative space offers inspiration and fun for every concert goer, from experiencing a live art installation and designing your own photo that reflects your unique dream, to relaxing on the rooftop lounge and loading up on festival necessities. • The Miller Lite Oasis has been renovated for this year’s festival, featuring enhanced amenities and access for patrons. The stage includes a new Miller Brew House, video screen upgrades, new bar areas, expanded hospitality areas and a reconfigured marketplace and Summerfest retail store. • The Miller Lite Oasis is home to “Level Up,” a concert viewing deck, which features a private bar and restrooms, seating, and flat-screen TVs from 6:00pm – midnight for $100 per person. The ticket to Level Up includes admission to Summerfest, two beverages and evening appetizers. Tickets are available at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater Box Office or at ticketmaster.com. • To assist with planning a visit to Summerfest 50, the 2017 Summerfest App presented by Pepsi is now available for mobile phones and tablets and FREE to download on the Apple or Google Play stores. This year’s Summerfest App has been given a new design that allows patrons to check out which of their friends are planning to see the same shows and explore recommendations based on music tastes when connected to Facebook. • Come and experience the 360 Dome Pro Virtual Reality Village! An unforgettable entertainment experience for all ages! 360 Dome Pro provides a one of kind sensory experience combining music, art and visuals that will take audiences on a journey into new dimensions of Virtual Reality and 360 immersive experience. The exhibit will feature a variety of amazing content from top visionary artists, animated stories and hyper reality documentaries—all performed in audiophile surround sound. Food & Beverage • Eat your way through Summerfest 2017, starting with new vendors and food items! Dietary restrictions?     Item 23 CITY COUNCIl REPORT Meeting Date: June 27, 2017 General Plan Element: Economic Vitality General Plan Goal: Sustain Scottsdale as a tourist destination ACTION Adopt Resolution No. 10821 authorizing a FY 2017/18 Tourism Development Fund operating contingency transfer in the amount of $650,000 to the Tourism and Events Department operating budget for use in supporting the 2018 Canal Convergence events. BACKGROUND It started as an idea, a conversation, a meeting and grew into a partnership between the City of Scottsdale, Scottsdale Public Art and Salt River Project. Many others have since joined, all of whom share in the belief that Public Space conceived upon the nature of what supports us, what keeps us here, what inspires our creativity and enables our growth is the reflection of all that is important for sustaining life in this desert city. Canal Convergence is this idea. Since 2012 it has been a place of engagement, a place where international and local artists come together to celebrate a one of a kind community environment and immersive art experience for all, and a new point of pride for Scottsdale residents and businesses. As Canal Convergence began taking shape, the Tourism Strategic Plan adopted by City Council in 2013 outlined the importance of creating a destination event during the tourism industry's shoulder season (May through December). Through the Council appointed Tourism Advisory Task Force (TATF) and Request for Proposal (RFP) process, the city contracted with Webb Management Services to complete a three-phased destination event study.     Neotrance and the Psychedelic Festival GRAHAM ST JOHN UNIVERSITY OF REGINA, UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND Abstract !is article explores the religio-spiritual characteristics of psytrance (psychedelic trance), attending speci"cally to the characteristics of what I call neotrance apparent within the contemporary trance event, the countercultural inheritance of the “tribal” psytrance festival, and the dramatizing of participants’ “ultimate concerns” within the festival framework. An exploration of the psychedelic festival offers insights on ecstatic (self- transcendent), performative (self-expressive) and re!exive (conscious alternative) trajectories within psytrance music culture. I address this dynamic with reference to Portugal’s Boom Festival. Currently the permission allows for two more festivals to take place until the permission expires. The applicant now seeks a variation to a number of conditions on the planning permission. In summary the main variations proposed are: An increase in the number of attendees from 59,999 to 64,999 (plus an additional 1,000 on Sunday tickets for local residents) (Condition 2).

As human population grows, it generates more demand within the food system, possibly disproportionately for meat products, as we are currently consuming more meat, eggs, and nuts than the recommended amount (Figure 1). As consumption rate increases, so do greenhouse gas emissions, strain on our fresh water supply, land use, and livestock waste, which contributes to ocean dead zones. Animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all combined global transportation.1,2 About 44 percent of livestock emissions are in the form of methane (CH4).2 The remaining part is almost equally shared between Nitrous Dioxide (N2O, 29 percent) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2, 27 percent).2 CH4 has 25 times the global warming potential of CO2, while N2O has 298 times the global warming potential of CO2.3 Animal-based food products are also extremely water intensive compared to alternative high-protein foods. For example, it takes as around 12,139 more liters of water to produce one pound of beef compared to one pound of rice and beans.4,5 When animal waste is improperly managed, it could pollute waterways with excess nutrients, contributing to algae blooms which lead to the degradation of oxygen levels, and thus create dead zones.

    Fortify Fest features Funky Feat By Submitted Posted Aug 6, 2019 at 10:45 AM Updated Aug 6, 2019 at 10:48 AM Seven bands at Fortify Music Fest at Fort DuPont August 10 If you like the music of Little Feat, Steely Dan and sounds of Southern Rock, then you are going to love the 2019 Fortify Music Fest. Little Feat, on their national tour celebrating their 50th anniversary sometimes break to play at smaller venues, have fun and jam. They will be coming to Fort DuPont in Delaware City. The last time Little Feat played in Delaware was 1990. Four of the original members of the legendary band Little Feat, will be preforming as Funky Feat. The music starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. The 2019 Fortify Music Fest features two of the best up and coming local artists, The Susquehanna Floods and Lovebettie. There will be some great southern rock classics by High Noon and in the late afternoon you can enjoy the extraordinary and iconic sounds of Steely Dan, played by Countdown to Ecstasy. Tickets $35, children under the age of 12 are free. Tickets are available at www.fortifyfest.com. Gates open at noon.
