This document was designed as a tool for assessing and guiding water management in Spain. Although Spain’s future water policy is outlined in the conclusions, the points mentioned refer only to quantitative aspects of water resources without considering the issue of quality. Nonetheless, the issue of river, reservoir, lake and groundwater pollution is taken into account in the assessment section. Amongst the problems related to water quality, the White Paper notes, among others, problems related with Directives 91/271/EEC and 91/676/EEC. Tipologia: tipus i subtipus Zones humides artificials Llacuna de Depuració A.2. Descripció La zona humida "Antiga gravera de Palafolls" és una zona humida d'origen artificial, consistent en una llacuna de depuració de les aigües terciàries de l'Estació Depuradora d'Aigües Residuals (EDAR) de Tordera. La conducció de les aigües sanejades cap a aquests aiguamolls permet que mitjançant processos biològics naturals, l’aigua aconsegueixi un major grau de depuració de manera natural i amb el mínim consum energètic. Aquesta zona humida, de 4,5 Ha, es va crear en els terrenys ocupats per una antiga gravera situada al marge dret del riu Tordera, al límit entre els termes municipals de Palafolls i Tordera. La llacuna es va crear mitjançant el projecte LIFE-Aqüífer Tordera, realitzat per l'Agència Catalana de l'Aigua i l'Ajuntament de Tordera, per tal de reutilitzar les aigües de l'EDAR de Tordera a través d'un sistema natural d'aiguamolls. Aquest sistema està constituït per la llacuna de depuració "Antiga gravera de Palafolls" i per un sistema de canalitzacions, impulsat mitjançant energia solar, que condueix les aigües riu amunt, fins als aiguamolls coneguts com a l ’illa del riu, inclosos dins la zona humida "Braç esquerre de l'illa del Tordera" (codi 05002101), on es produeix la recàrrega de l'aqüífer. El tram de canalitzacions té uns tres quilòmetres i permet transportar diàriament uns mil metres cúbics d’aigua. Entre la vegetació d'aquesta zona humida destaca el seu extens cinyell helofític, format per canyissos i bogues.

    Valorisation of Hanging Tomatoes in Spain

    Preparatory action on EU plant and animal genetic resources Valorisation of hanging tomatoes in Spain Overview The hanging tomato is a very well-known type of tomato and is widespread in different regions of Spain, from the Mediterranean East, to inland areas, such as Cáceres, and Atlantic areas like Galicia. Beyond these visible characteristics, another common connection shared by hanging tomatoes is their selection by peasant communities with the common aim (convergent selection) of enjoying tomatoes during the winter months. The hanging tomato is a type of tomato that, when cultivated in strict non-irrigated systems or with low irrigation provisions, is characterised by the fact that, once harvested and stored in certain conditions, it can be conserved for approximately 6 months (sometimes even 9 months) (cf. Figures 1 and 2). This means that if the tomato is harvested in July and August, the fruit can be preserved until at least February of the following year. In fact, traditionally, fruits that have a lower capacity for conservation are consumed fresh, whereas those that keep for longer are used for seeds to plant the next crop season. This type of tomato has a widespread and stable commercialisation, primarily in Catalonia. However, there are other areas, such as Mallorca or Menorca, where it is also highly valued by consumers. It was traditionally destined for consumption out of season, both fresh and when conserved. It even formed part of specific recipes such as romesco sauce. However, the appearance on the market of winter productions grown in greenhouses in regions of Southern Spain, as well as from other warmer countries, has relegated hanging tomatoes to the main geographical areas where the typical ‘pan con tomate’ [‘bread with tomato’] is consumed (cf.

    Recorregut de recerca geològica i mineralògica per la comarca del Maresme: des de Malgrat de Mar a Pineda de Mar i Arenys de Mar Josep M. Mata-Perelló Geoparc de la Catalunya Central GEOLOGICAL AND MINERALOGICAL RESEARCH TOUR THROUGH THE MARESME REGION: FROM MALGRAT DE MAR TO ARENYS DE MAR AND PINEDA DE MAR. – This article is a geological tour that takes place entirely in the Maresme region, between the towns of Malgrat de Mar and Arenys de Mar. The tour includes various stops used to observe and describe the geology of the parts of the region though which the route runs. The entire route is within the Mediterranean System, and specifically the Coastal Range. Therefore, the geological materials encountered are exclusively the outcrops of Paleozoic materi- als (mainly Ordovician and Silurian) that constitute this range. Nevertheless, in the lower parts, we often find outcrops of Pleistocene and Holocene detrital material. 23 Breu introducció Objectius fonamentals d’aquest itinerari En aquesta ocasió, la totalitat del recorre- Els objectius fonamentals que es pretenen gut de l’itinerari discorrerà pel Sistema Medi- aconseguir en aquest itinerari, es poden con- terrani. I més concretament, ho farà quasi de cretar en els següents aspectes generals: forma exclusiva per la denominada Serrala- – Observació al llarg de l’itinerari, de la Ser- da Litoral Catalana. I, més concretament, ho ralada Litoral Catalana, per on discorrerà, en- farà pel Montnegre. Per altra banda, també tre els voltants de Malgrat de Mar i la població cal dir que una petita part del recorregut es d’Arenys de Mar.

Per primera vegada en anys, Caldes centra l’interès informatiu en portades i notícies que no tenen a veure amb irregularitats comeses en l’anterior gestió municipal. La recent aprovació del conveni per a la urbanització de la zona de can Comas, a més de la recuperació de l’espai emblemàtic de can Vidal –en ple centre urbà, al peu del Camí Ral–, posa de manifest la prioritat que guia l’actuació del govern municipal, l’atenció a les persones. Més enllà de la concreció urbanística, el que de veritat compta són les importants fites socials que s’aconseguiran amb la realització del projecte, des d’una important dotació d’habitatges protegits, fins als pisos tutelats per a joves i grans, passant pel nou i espaiós Casal per a la Gent Gran, un cop s’hagi rehabilitat l’edifici del Camí Ral. Aquestes són només les primeres concrecions. Tot seguit en vindran d’altres. Algunes fa anys que esperen que algú les faci i han dormit en algun calaix de la ineficàcia de governs anteriors, que no han sabut executar aquelles obres que prèviament ells mateixos anunciaven com a prioritàries, com per exemple algunes reformes pendents als equipaments escolars i a diversos i importants trams de l’enllumenat públic. Hi ha una cosa, però, que sembla no canvia, sinó que més aviat empitjora i és l’actitud prepotent i altiva dels regidors de l’oposició.

ETSAB (UPC) BAU School of Design (UVIC) e-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Abstract: This paper analyzes the historical development of tourism in the Alt Maresme, its current problematic situation, and the strategies that are being considered in the area to regenerate and to give continuity to this economical activity. This region, located on the Northeastern Spanish coast, within the sphere of Barcelona’s Metropolitan area, was in the 60’s and 70’s a good example of Mediterranean mass tourism. This model –with sunny climate, golden beaches, night parties and cheap prices as main incentives to attract tourists, mostly from northwestern Europe- went into decline in the late 80's, due to the success of other international destinations. This study briefly explains the main factors which now affect this activity in the Alt Maresme. It aims to present the main challenges and opportunities of tourism in the area, as well as the threats that may affect the sustainability of tourism in the medium term. Approximately 26 million people traveled to Catalonia during this period, of which foreign visitors were 14.206.600 (2).
