With one picture, the first one sees it as spots on a giraffe. The second one sees it as eyes and a nose when you turn it around at 90 degrees. The third one sees it as a close-up of Swiss cheese. The fourth one sees it as two balloons playing catch. It all depends on how you look at it. The four LeVars look at a couple more eye riddles. Many people see many things in different ways. Besides having a unique way of seeing things, people's other senses are unique too. LeVar loves coming Arthurs Eyes the farmer's bazaar because he gets surrounded by all kinds of sights, smells, and textures. He challenges the viewers' eyes at seeing Arthurs Eyes of certain fruits and vegetables. The things the viewers see are viewed through a special camera lens. Some people use special lenses to see things, especially when they can't see well. LeVar explains, "I wear glasses, and sometimes I wear contact lenses. A different color blindness, unlike with your eyes, has something to do with your mind. It has nothing to do with what you see, but how you see it. LeVar has a flipbook he made himself. The picture changes each time you turn a page. Flipping the pages faster looks like a moving film.

INTRODUCTION The collections of the Austin History Center contain valuable materials about Austin’s African American communities, although there is much that remains to be documented. The materials in this bibliography are arranged by collection unit of the Austin History Center. Within each collection unit, items are arranged in shelf-list order. This bibliography is one in a series of updates of the original 1979 bibliography. It reflects the addition of materials to the Austin History Center based on the recommendations and donations of many generous individuals and support groups. The Austin History Center card catalog supplements the online computer catalog by providing analytical entries to information in periodicals and other materials in addition to listing collection holdings by author, title, and subject. These entries, although indexing ended in the 1990s, lead to specific articles and other information in sources that would otherwise be time-consuming to find and could be easily overlooked.

  • The Animation Industry: Technological Changes, Production Challenges, and Global Shifts
THE ANIMATION INDUSTRY: TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES, PRODUCTION CHALLENGES, AND GLOBAL SHIFTS DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Hyejin Yoon, M.A. ***** The Ohio State University 2008 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Professor Edward J. Malecki, Adviser Professor Nancy Ettlinger Adviser Graduate Program in Geography Professor Darla K. Munroe ABSTRACT Animated films have grown in popularity as expanding markets (such as TV and video) and new technologies (notably computer graphics imagery) have broadened both the production and consumption of cartoons. As a consequence, more animated films are produced and watched in more places, as new “worlds of production” have emerged. The animation production system, specialized and distinct from film production, relies on different technologies and labor skills. Therefore, its globalization has taken place differently from live-action film production, although both are structured to a large degree by the global production networks (GPNs) of the media conglomerates. This research examines the structure and evolution of the animation industry at the global scale. In order to investigate these, 4,242 animation studios from the Animation Industry Database are used. The spatial patterns of animation production can be summarized as, 1) dispersion of the animation industry, 2) concentration in world cities, such as Los Angeles and New York, 3) emergence of specialized animation cities, such as Annecy and Angoulême in France, and 4) significant concentrations of animation studios in some Asian countries, such as India, South Korea and the Philippines. In order to understand global production networks (GPNs), networks of studios in 20 cities are analyzed.
