Despite the challenge, obstacles and seemingly forever changing circumstances that our student athletes, coaching staff, athletic department, trainers and teachers have faced, everyone showed up for our Fall sports programs ready to compete, learn, get better and roll with the changes. Shout-out to the following individuals Girls varsity: Agam Horowitz and Allison Swift came in 4th and 5th, and with the help of a PR on a muddy course. Annabelle Buchannan helped bring a 2nd place trophy home for the team. Boys varsity: ran a tighter race as they continue to improve. The Varsity boys were led by Asa and Will to guide our boys’ team to a 6th place finish out of 17 teams. JV girls: the girls placed 3rd, led by Lindsey Straub’s 7th place finish. Ava Sun and Kacey Burgess both had solid races as well. JV Boys: were led by Carson Kennedy and Davin Brummond. The JV boys placed 5th out of 11 teams. The team is ready for REGIONS! Baseball 2020 JCHS Baseball is ready for Spring 2021 after their Spring 2020 season was cut short due to COVID. We are extremely proud that we had 6 seniors from the Class of 2020 go on to play college baseball including: 2020 Wil Ferguson – Roane State 2020 Charlie Morgan – Berry College 2020 Dalton Pearson – Georgia State University 2020 Austin Wainer – Bryant University 2020 Tyler Watson – Georgia Tech 2020 Jack Whitlock - Eastern Kentucky University As we prepare for the season ahead, Gladiator baseball has welcomed 42 players in grades 9-12 to their workout roster as SPAK workouts began on October 20th complete with COVID protocols and modifications. Under the direction of Coach Beth Spak, the prospective players will work on strength, conditioning, speed and agility until tryouts in early January when the final rosters are set for our 3 teams. Coach Beth Spak has been the baseball team’s personal strength and conditioning coach since the school opened in 2009 and she has been a huge reason for the success we have had with our program through the years. Baseball is thrilled to show off our new scoreboard installed in June of 2020. This stellar new addition to the Gladiator Field is ready for its inaugural season in February 2021. We invite you to come up the hill and visit Gladiator Baseball. @JCHSBaseball Volleyball 2020 The 2020 Volleyball team wrapped up their season finishing 6-10. Several returning experienced players and a few new faces helped to secure wins and garner some spectacular moments. The highlights of this season were defeating our rival Chattahoochee and advancing to the second round of regionals. Great job Lady Gladiators! This letter comes to you after quite a bit of thought. Jeff Miller asked me to have the letter completed much sooner than he actually received it. I was, and am, unsure what to say. Should this be a “thank you” letter to the GFCA for allowing me to serve as president for the last two years? Should it be a “State of Debate” letter? Should I offer ideas, insights, reasons? Should it be formal and efficient? No. For those who are unaware, I have some shocking news.I used to work for Disney. I know, big surprise. I also am a huge fan of Disney animated films. The reason why I am, however, may surprise. I am NOT a huge fan of a Disney Happy Ending. They are predictable, syrupy and just too… Happy. Instead, I prefer the back story of those Disney films. I like the Disney formula that seems to work on audiences, even after 80 years. There is a struggle, an unexpected friendship, a reliance on truth and possibility, acknowledgement of personal hubris and doubt, a decision, moral culpability and, finally, a goal within reach. The next movie changes things a bit, but only slightly.

The Clarkston boys brought home the first state trophy in 1940, and 41 other teams have since realized the big prize in the ensuing 76 years. From legendary coach Elmer Morrow ’s dominating boys teams at Druid Hills in the 1950s to the current boys powerhouses at Miller Grove and Columbia, the list of win- ners is an impressive one. Druid Hills knocked off Avondale (50 -44), Tifton (47 -44) and Jeff Davis (55 -42) in state finals in 1953, 1954 and 1957 respectively. Stone Mountain and Clarkston on the boys side, and Druid Hills and Stone Mountain among the girls served as the other early local powers. E.L. Rainey , another of DeKalb County’s original hoop coaching giants, led Stone Mountain to the Class B crown in 1957. Tom Church guided Clarkston to its second boys state championship with a victo- rious effort in the class B final in 1964. The girls matched the boys for the first time at Druid Hill in 1960, with Virginia Canady coaching that squad to the Class AAA title.

    19 LC 119 0357 House Resolution 547 By: Representatives Dollar of the 45th, Carson of the 46th, and Cooper of the 43rd A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing and commending the Georgia High School Fencing League and its member 2 teams; and for other purposes. 3 WHEREAS, the Georgia High School Fencing League (GHSFL) offers organization, 4 support, and guidance to high schools wishing to develop a fencing program, providing 5 students the opportunity to participate in a classical sport that demands physical fitness and 6 teaches patience and decisiveness; and 7 WHEREAS, USA Fencing, the sport's national governing body, recognizes the GHSFL as 8 the fastest growing high school fencing league in the United States and as the third largest 9 such league in the United States; and 10 WHEREAS, from a field of more than 450 fencers from the 21 high schools who participated 11 in the 2018-2019 GHSFL season tournaments, 84 men and 84 women are among those who 12 qualified to participate in the 2019 Individual Championships hosted by Chattahoochee High 13 School on January 26, 2019; and 14 WHEREAS, the following young men and young women earned medals in the GHSFL 15 Individual Championships: In the men's event the top eight, in order, were: Arthur Yu 16 (Alpharetta High School), Jacob Danzig (Johns Creek High School), Gabriel Chen (Walton 17 High School), Tyler Cho (Chattahoochee High School), Arnav Singh (South Forsyth High 18 School), Anthony Freeman (BEST Academy), Cole Tinsley (Alpharetta High School), 19 Donny Gu (Chattahoochee High School).
