Charter Funds: Expenditure Form On July 31, 2020 all Fulton schools received $30,000 to be spent by School Governance Councils on innovative measures towards achieving strategic outcomes. These Charter Dollars must be spent in accordance with FCS expenditure guidelines and are subject to the same restrictions as other funds in your cost center. In addition, any purchase(s) made using Charter Dollars must be publicly voted on by your School Governance Council and recorded in the Charter Dollar Expenditure Form (Note: A copy of your expenditure form will not need to be posted on your SGC web page because it will appear on the FCS Charter System Website). However, SGCs should make note of any expenditure on their agenda and record voting outcomes related to these funds in their minutes. November SGC Meeting Exercise: Formula for Support Focus: Community and Collaboration Purpose/Outcome: Development of a Formula for Support and Springboard plan for the 2020-2021 school year to achieve selected SGC goal(s). Time: 30 minutes Facilitator: Chair or Vice Chair Protocol: 1. The Parliamentarian reminds the council of progress towards goal setting from the previous meeting using the October meeting minutes. 2. Formula for Support. The facilitator asks: How might we develop a framework to support these goal(s)? Examples of support might include: Partnerships People Charter dollars Materials Communication [Use Your School’s Whiteboard to Brainstorm] The following are brainstorming prompts and questions to support conversation: Where is the starting point or current baseline for the goal? How might we use Charter dollars to support these goals? What touchpoints or check-ins might we have towards this goal? What are the potential roadblocks towards achieving this goal? What resources will be needed to support progress towards this goal? How might we leverage committees to support the work of this goal? 3. Spring Board Plan: How might we measure the progress of this goal along the way? How do we measure if we achieved our goal? Think of this as a plan in stages like a race, with checkpoints along the way to mark mini-goals, review progress and make alterations to support the goal. List 1-2 actionable items to begin supporting this goal/initiative include the date(s) by which you will monitor progress. By _________ we expect to have initiated/completed ________. Page 2 Example: We will hold two parent universities in the 2020-21 school year. By December we will have initiated planning our first parent university. By February we expect to complete one parent university. New Steps: Continue this work in your December meeting. School Link to Whiteboard A. eyes wide open THE SPRINGMONT NEWSLETTER - ALUMNI EDITION Summer 2020 IN THIS ISSUE Dear Springmont Alumni and Alumni Families: What a trying year 2020 has been so far! In my 19 2 Letter from the years as a Head of School, this has easily been the Head of School, most challenging to navigate, and I’m sure many continued of you have had similar experiences at work and at home. I owe a great amount of gratitude to the Covid-19 Springmont community for the many ways we Emergency have pulled together to handle this unprecedented Tuition situation and the obstacles it presented. Assistance Fund Springmont’s last day of on-campus lessons was Thursday, March 12th. On March 13th Parent/ 3 Congratulations Teacher Conferences took place as scheduled, and Class of 2020 we dismissed for the weekend with plans for Faculty and Staff to return to campus the following Monday to organize and strategize for what we thought 4 Maria’s 150th would be two weeks of remote learning. By Sunday, Birthday I alerted Faculty and Staff not to report to campus the following day as the risk of infection was increasing by the moment. Alumni Association It’s said that “necessity is the mother of invention” and that certainly was accurate. Changes Many in the modern workplace are equipped to work from home as needed, but that was not the case for educators, especially those dedicated to the hands-on/experiential pedagogy of the Montessori experience. Our teachers, assistants, specialists and 5 As Seen on administration worked tirelessly to launch a Learning From Home program that was Instagram student-centered and honored Springmont’s mission and core values.

Georgia Forensic Coaches Association 2nd Annual Varsity State Championships Westminster Schools Atlanta, GA March 9-10, 2012 Mario Herrera, Tournament Director Jenny Heidt, Tournament Host Richard Bracknell, Individual Events Tab Room Director John McClellan, Public Forum/Lincoln Douglas Debate Tab Room Director Jeffrey Miller, Policy Debate Tab Room Director Welcome to the 2nd Annual Varsity State Championships Dear Colleagues, Welcome to the 2012 GFCA Varsity State Championships! This letter comes to you after quite a bit of thought. Jeff Miller asked me to have the letter completed much sooner than he actually received it. I was, and am, unsure what to say. Should this be a “thank you” letter to the GFCA for allowing me to serve as president for the last two years? Should it be a “State of Debate” letter? Should I offer ideas, insights, reasons? Should it be formal and efficient? No. For those who are unaware, I have some shocking news.I used to work for Disney. I know, big surprise. I also am a huge fan of Disney animated films. The reason why I am, however, may surprise. I am NOT a huge fan of a Disney Happy Ending. They are predictable, syrupy and just too… Happy. Instead, I prefer the back story of those Disney films. I like the Disney formula that seems to work on audiences, even after 80 years. There is a struggle, an unexpected friendship, a reliance on truth and possibility, acknowledgement of personal hubris and doubt, a decision, moral culpability and, finally, a goal within reach. The next movie changes things a bit, but only slightly.

The Clarkston boys brought home the first state trophy in 1940, and 41 other teams have since realized the big prize in the ensuing 76 years. From legendary coach Elmer Morrow ’s dominating boys teams at Druid Hills in the 1950s to the current boys powerhouses at Miller Grove and Columbia, the list of win- ners is an impressive one. Druid Hills knocked off Avondale (50 -44), Tifton (47 -44) and Jeff Davis (55 -42) in state finals in 1953, 1954 and 1957 respectively. Stone Mountain and Clarkston on the boys side, and Druid Hills and Stone Mountain among the girls served as the other early local powers. E.L. Rainey , another of DeKalb County’s original hoop coaching giants, led Stone Mountain to the Class B crown in 1957. Tom Church guided Clarkston to its second boys state championship with a victo- rious effort in the class B final in 1964. The girls matched the boys for the first time at Druid Hill in 1960, with Virginia Canady coaching that squad to the Class AAA title.
