Forums in Fulton County were divided into North Fulton, South Fulton and the City of Atlanta in order to accommodate the large number of cultural organizations and individual artists based in Fulton County. Key findings, issues and opportunities in Fulton County included: sustaining resources: There is an immediate need for greater access to resources to sustain the arts and cultural community. These include funding, affordable presentation and rehearsal facilities, affordable housing and affordable health care. economic development: The arts community fosters a competitive advantage for the region. Economic Development Directors that participated in the cultural forums recognized the value of a strong cultural sector in attracting and retaining high level businesses. workforce competitiveness: Children and young adults need access to the arts to engender creative thinking (a top criteria in hiring among 60 Fortune 500 CEO’s in a recent IBM study) in order to prepare students to be competitive in the workforce. regional community: Arts patrons do not recognize geographic boundaries when attending events. Greater cooperation is needed at all levels (organizations, cities, counties, regional) to make existing cultural opportunities both more visible and more accessible. cultural districts: The creation of concentrated “cultural districts,” including both visual and performing arts venues, would spur economic development and community redevelopment. collaboration: Cultural organizations within Fulton County desired opportunities to meet with County Departments that might be relevant for partnerships including Justice, Social Service, Aging, Heath Department to pursue possible cross-discipline collaborations.
