Calendar RS YEA 25 9 • 1994–201 2019 Calendar 1994–2019 • 25 YEARS OF ENTRENUE Where was I in 1994? Wow! 25 years! How the HECK did that happen? As the photo of me on this page shows, I was graduating that May from the University of Arizona. This WELCOME is one of the last pictures that I have of my real parents and I in a group shot. The two people who made me who I am by my side. I love it…and I love them. So grateful… In October of ‘94, I began my first job in the Macy’s buying offices in San Francisco where I eventually helped them rebuild the Northridge store after a devastating earthquake. I was paying just over a dollar per gallon for gas and I was just hearing about this thing called “the internet.” I was listening to Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and, my NJ favorites, Bon Jovi. One of my favorite movies of all time, The Lion King, was released along with Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump. Fun Joe Casella fact: I saw Elton John in concert that year since he had the theme song to The Lion King. It was the only song that I knew that evening as he played all B-sides and no hits. Really? Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, this was the founding year of a small company named Entrenue…and Amazon, LOL… It was 25 years ago in 1994 that Harry and Karen had a vision to provide a book source on sexuality and relationship enhancement to adult stores. From that vision, Entrenue was born on a bookshelf in their bedroom…to the basement… to the garage…and eventually a warehouse in Redmond, WA. The business flourished. In January of 1996, I had the pleasure of meeting them as I began my career in the adult industry. We clicked immediately, and a mutually beneficial relationship was born which continued for a decade. In the spring of 2006, Harry approached me at a tradeshow and said, “Casella, we’re ready to retire and wanna sell the business. We have one guy on our list. Are you interested?” After a few weeks of consideration, the answer was “yes.” On 9/15/06, I signed my life away and began moving the business to Arizona, creating a winning team, and forging partnerships with customers and suppliers. Now over 12 years later, Entrenue is successful no matter how you view us. We have a work environment that is fun to participate in every day. I’m grateful we have a talented and KIND team full of smart, passionate and funny people— I am only as good as the staff I surround myself with. We are blessed to work with passionate vendors that live and die with their brands. We are thankful for our talented customers who amaze me with their creativity and hard-work ethics to sell to the end-consumer. All of this work together is making this year the best EVER in sales! Thank you again to everyone! Harry and Karen, THANK YOU for seeing in me the ability to take your baby to the next level. I’m not sure that I even saw it… People who REALLY know me understand that GRATITUDE, KINDNESS and LOVE are paramount to me. I love to come from a good place and lift other people up. My aim is to consider how people have used technology to engage in new ethics forms of sexual expression in order to more clearly delineate exactly what consti- infidelity tutes cheating and the ethical lines surrounding such behaviours. As with non-digital intimacy forms of intimacy, it seems clear that there is a range of behaviours that invite differ- sexuality ent people to draw the lines in different places, ranging from flirtation to erotic talk, to physical contact. But the goal of this article is not merely to consider where the lines may lie, but rather to examine how the medium in which the interaction takes place invites individuals to make particular moral judgments concerning what lines should exist at all concerning both physical and emotional intimacy. Humans have likely been using tools to achieve sexual pleasure for as long as humans have used tools. Aside from some religious imperatives against masturbation, such actions are seemingly well within the realm of the ethical, especially in regard to whether such actions constitute cheating on one’s lover. However, the tools that we have crafted for sexual purposes have, like all tools, evolved considerably from the crude dildos and, of course, hands of times past.
