  • National Cultural Heritage: Interdisciplinary Approaches
NATIONAL CULTURAL HERITAGE: INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES. REFLECTIONS ON THE INSTITUTION OF RESPONSIBILITY IN THE MATTER PhD. student Cosmin SOARE1 Abstract The research of the national cultural heritage from a legal perspective is a necessity in the present Romanian legal space. The attention paid to this field has the vocation to contribute to shaping a national consciousness on the importance of cultural heritage in the life and identity of Romanian society. The article proposes an objective approach to regulations in the field, with the presentation of relevant examples from national and international jurisprudence as an expression of the current state of cultural heritage protection. The development and adaptation of specific regulations, policies and operations to the real needs of the cultural patrimony presupposes the concurrence of a complex of factors, among which the public administration, through its authorities, institutions and specialized bodies, plays a key role. Keywords: cultural heritage law, administrative law, administrative accountability, public administration, national identity. JEL Classification: H41, K23 1. The justification of research The present research has the mission to be part of the signals drawn in the sense of awareness of the essential importance of the cultural heritage in the life and identity of the present and future society, as well as in understanding the existence of its indissoluble interference with a number of other factors, and public administration. The people's living environment, the quality of life and the common identity of a society are also influenced by the cultural, material or immaterial space, as well as the physical, natural or built space. As far as physical space is concerned, we dedicated it to a separate article from the perspective of urbanism, by virtue of its protection of general interests2.

PASSION, DUTY, AND FAME: WOMEN TRANSLATORS OF CUORE INTO ROMANIAN (1893-1936) PAIXÃO, DEVER E FAMA: AS TRADUTORAS DE CUORE PARA O ROMENO (1893-1936) Iulia COSMA* West University of Timișoara Timișoara, Romania University of Padua Padua, Padua, Italy Abstract: The second half of the nineteenth century saw a proliferation of translations from romance languages into Romanian as a consequence of the economic and cultural development of the Romanian society. In this context, 1893 saw the publication of the first Romanian translation of De Amicis’s Cuore (Heart): An Italian Schoolboy’s Journal, by Clelia Bruzzesi (1836-1903). The twentieth century brought five other versions, two of them signed by women translators: Sofia Nădejde (1856-1946) in 1916 and Mia Frollo (1885-1962) in 1936. Until recently, 59 Cuore was part of the primary school curriculum in Romania, so the text left a mark on the cultural history of the country. This paper aims to raise awareness of the often neglected translation activity of women and to reveal Bruzzesi, Nădejde and Frollo’s place in society as well their motivations and the public reception of their translations. Keywords: Women translators. De Amicis’s Cuore (Heart): An Italian Schoolboy’s Journal in Romanian translation. Literary translation into Romanian. Retranslation. History of literary translation. Resumo: A segunda metade do século XIX viu uma proliferação de traduções de línguas românicas para o romeno como consequência do desenvolvimento econômico e cultural da sociedade romena. Neste contexto, em 1893 foi publicada a primeira tradução romena de Cuore (Heart): An Italian Schoolboy’s Journal [Coração: Diário de um aluno], de Amici, feita por Clelia Bruzzesi (1836-1903).

  • Science Popularization and Romanian
1 In the second half of the nineteenth century the notes of Michael Bakunin were printed as Dieu et l’État [God and the State] aiming to hammer a nail both through the authority of supernatural divine forces and in the heart of the state apparatus. Soon in various European peripheries, various anarchist followers brought a third dimension to his credo, namely, to liberate the minds of workers and peasants through means of science popularization. By opposing liberal bourgeois scientifi c discourses, the relationship between science and anarchism was seeking individual self-emancipation, women’s liberation and at the same time, as their popularizing literature managed to yield alternative printing platforms, to construct a critical scientifi c public sphere. Historically, the practice of science popularization and anarchism were both strongly rooted in Enlightenment philosophy within which knowledge stood as an important pillar. Science, however, was perceived by the anarchists as a collective accumulation of facts and observations that a few privileged representatives of the upper class have deprived the populace of means from access to, with the establishment of scientifi c institutions. Thus, in the long run towards state decentralization, the anarchist view was clear: knowledge was 2 power, therefore science should be available for all, regardless of one’s social status or intellectual capabilities.1 S During the 1870s political changes across continental Europe reached their imperialist heights with clashes between the Ottoman and Russian empires as just one example. As a consequence of the oppressive rule of Czar Alexander II, exiled members of the narodnik movement came straight to the city of Iași, with its new university.2 In those days, the two Romanian Principalities of Moldova and Wallachia, were struggling to keep the peace because of social inequalities, high rates of illiteracy, agrarian reforms that kept the peasantry in serfdom, secularization of monastic land, and the modernization of its scientifi c institutions.

Abstract: Cernăuţi, known as Czernowitz in Yiddish, gathered together important personalities in order to debate on the issue of the status of Yiddish. The power and the contribution of the Jews of Bukovina to the culture and spirituality of Bukovina – beyond the economic references, such as commerce, finances and banks – were really impressive, as a proof being the personalities asserted within the Bukovina area including at the top: Paul Celan (Paul Antschel) Moses Barasch, Jacob Eisenscher, Arthur Kolnik, Slomo Lerner, Itic Manger, Eliezer Steinbarg, Moses Rosenkrantz,

Particularly close to my heart was my only daughter Lea, who after completing the primary school was assisting me in the inn and at the counter. She was already 17 years old. She was well- behaved, hardworking, and diligent. Then the misfortune happened! On November 12, 1907, at 7 o’clock in the eve ning, my daughter dis appeared from our home. Etymologicum Magnum Romaniae , an Unfulfilled Dream Dr. Jenica Tabacu « B.P.Hasdeu » Memorial Museum Municipal Council of Câmpina e-mail: [email protected] Dr. Jenica Tabacu is director of “B.P.Hasdeu” Memorial Museum and expert recognized by the Minister of Culture and Cults in archaeological and historical- documentary heritage. She is preoccupated by the research of B.P.Hasdeu’s life and work. In her vision, the new technologies are supports for the knowledge. For this reason she implemented in the museum modern and attractive information systems: the infotouch solution and the audioguide. Abstract On the 4 th of April 1884, as Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu was the only academician expert in linguistics, he commited himself to the Romanian Academy to write the etymologic dictionary that was to be financially supported by King Carol I. He conceived a „Linguistic Questionnaire” that he sent out to all the counties Romanians inhabited and the answers that he received constituted precious information included in the first three volumes of the Dictionary. After the death of his daughter in 1888, Hasdeu was overwhelmed with grief and he slowed down his scientific work. He felt the call of other horizons and was concerned with other things. The Romanian Academy discharged him of the responsibility of the dictionary in 1897. The fourth volume never came out of print but its ample introduction was issued as a separate book. Keywords: Hasdeu, Etymology, Dictionary, Linguistics, Questionnaire, Academy, Spiritism. On the 4 th of April, 1884, Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu took the pledge to write a great dictionary, under the auspices of the Romanian Academy.
