The Green Prince,” Mosab Hassan Yousef Betrayed His Father and Passed Intel from the Highest Echelons of Hamas to Israel’S Internal Intelligence Agency for Years
From Radical Muslim To Israeli Spy The- Moshe Holender Green Prince - Yitzchok Wagschal Code-named “The Green Prince,” Mosab Hassan Yousef betrayed his father and passed intel from the highest echelons of Hamas to Israel’s internal intelligence agency for years. Amazingly, he is still alive to tell his story. The True Interview As the eldest son of the influential sheikh who co-founded Hamas, Mosab Hassan Yousef seemed destined to follow in his father’s footsteps. Growing disillusioned with the terrorist organization’s ideology, which glorified death and taught that jihad was the only path to victory, he eventually agreed to work as a spy for Israel’s internal security agency, the Shin Bet. It was a decision that would not only change the course of his life, but save hundreds of innocent civilian lives. His Shin Bet handler, Gonen Ben-Yitzchak, met with Zman for an in-depth inter- view, including never-before-revealed details, and provided us with a unique firsthand account of Mosab’s riveting story—a story of trust, betrayal and the dark world of secret intelligence. 132 | ZMAN • December 2015 ZMAN • Kislev 5776 | 133 hin Bet Captain Loai had just received Ten minutes later he called Loai back and he thought as they rumbled down the road an intelligence report about a terror- told him, “The guy is staying in room 120.” toward a safe house in Yerushalayim. Shalom: Peace, Not Just Peace of Mind Parashat Ki Tetze Rabbi Daniel Cotzin Burg, Beth Am 9.6.14 ~ 11 Elul 5774
Shalom: Peace, Not Just Peace of Mind Parashat Ki Tetze Rabbi Daniel Cotzin Burg, Beth Am 9.6.14 ~ 11 Elul 5774 This week I spent a day in Washington with thought-leaders, rabbis and policy analysts. We were speaking about Israel, America’s relationship with the Jewish state and the current deeply troubling state of affairs in the Middle East. The most surprising and powerful presentation of the day was that of Mosab Hassan Yousef, son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founder and spiritual leader of Hamas. Given the events of this summer, it was particularly poignant to hear the heartfelt and courageous words of this young author and former Israeli asset (as he sat on the dais across from his Shin Bet handler). To even begin to conceive of such heroism, we almost have to transport ourselves into a different time – say Germany of the 1940s, when precious few righteous individuals resisted and acted against the scourge of Nazism. We might visit Rwanda or Cambodia, Darfur or America’s antebellum south. There are far too many examples in human history of pervasive, systematic violence and too few stories of those who made the hardest choices to turn against their fathers, brothers and their communities and attempt to salvage their dignity and humanity. Or perhaps we should roll the Torah back from its current location near the end, to a story near the very beginning whose hero, a simple man named Noah, is tzadik tamim haya b’dorotav, “a righteous man, blameless in his generation” (Gen. 6:9). I would argue it’s virtually impossible for us, most or all of us in this room, to know what it is like to live among the truly malevolent and depraved – a society so bad God sees no recourse but to erase it and start over. -
Israel & the Last Days
P. M. WILLIAMS BIBLE PROPHECY AND THE LAST DAYS [24/05/13] ISRAEL & THE LAST DAYS – PART 6 1When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt... 3Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; 4For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. (Deu 20:1, 3-4) A HISTORICAL SKETCH OF ISRAEL FROM 1948 – PRESENT – PART 3 Recap We learnt last week of the Camp David Accords which were signed in September 1978 between Israel and Egypt securing peace between these two countries on the condition that the Sinai be returned to the Egyptians. Another part of the accords was a framework that was drawn up establishing a format for future negotiations regarding the transfer of Arab-Palestinian governance of the West Bank and Gaza Strip which Israel seized control of in the 1967 war. The Sinai was given back to Egypt in 1982, but negotiations to hand back the West Bank and Gaza did not occur until the 1990’s in the Oslo Accords. We learnt that through much of the late 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, Yasser Arafat’s PLO terrorist organisation reined terror upon Israeli civilians operating out of the countries of surrounding nations including Jordan in the 60’s, Lebanon in the 70’s and early 80’s and finally Tunisia. -

cŠqa BERESHITH "IN THE BEGINNING" A Newsletter for Beginners, by Beginners ziy`xa Vol. XXI No. 3 Nissan 5768/April 2008 PESACH NOSTALGIA Rabbi Avi Billet When I think of Passover (Pesach), the most vivid memories I have are about turning the house over in preparation for the family seder and the role my grandparents would play leading up to that exciting evening. They always spent the holiday with us and would often come a few days in advance of the holiday to help with the cleaning and cooking. And of course, they looked forward to spending quality time with us, their grandkids. My grandmother would chase us around the house helping us clean (and probably wound up doing most of the cleaning herself). Most of her time, however, was spent preparing goodies that conform to the holiday rules of no chametz (leaven - flour and water). I really thought she had invented potato starch and matzo meal. She made rolls and honey cookies and muffins and noodles. And she used eggs -- boy did she use eggs! From her classic “grammy-eggs” and matzah brei, to her noodles for the chicken soup, to the crepe-like omelettes that became the out- side of her famous cheese blintzes. Many of my memories of those days are colored yellow. Grammy doesn’t do too much cooking now, but we still give her credit for all the delicacies we have grown accustomed to eating on Passover. My grandfather also had an important role in the kitchen, though his creativity was limited to the things he made best: (cont. -

C13 – e14 Adar, 5767l / Marche 1, 3, b4, 2007 ration! HOW TO PURIM the soulful meaning, customs, event schedules, and how to celebrate CELEBRATION! My Dear Friends, Wisconsin Jewry, Purim Guide The other day, while I was driving her to school in the morning, my seven-year-old grand-daughter asked me: “What’s the most important day of the year?” 2 PURIM THOUGHTS “Yom Kippur,” I replied instinctively. A moment later I said, “Or maybe Purim.” 3 THE REBBE’S MESSAGE At the next red light, I was backtracking again. “Actually, Passover is a very important day in our history. And Shavuot, when Why “Purim” we got the Torah. Rosh Hashanah, too....” I can’t really be blamed for my confusion. Open up any Chassidic text on the festivals of the Jewish calendar, and you’ll find that the 4 THE HISTORY OF PURIM most important day of the year is the one you’re reading about. The Passover discourses explain how the Exodus from Egypt is the most 6 HOW DO WE CELEBRATE? significant event of our history; and how it is on Passover, when the Exodus is “remembered and re-enacted,” that we establish the very Body & Soul foundation of our spiritual lives and our relationship with G-d. The Shavuot discourses say the same thing–about the revelation at Sinai. As do the discourses that discuss the inner significance of 10 PURIM RECIPES Chanukah, Purim, Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot.... You get the idea. Hamentashen and Kreplach All of which are, of course, true. At every juncture of the spiritual terrain of Jewish time is embedded a resource–be it freedom, wisdom, joy, unity, commitment – that is the foundation of our 10 CARING AT ITS FINEST spiritual lives and our relationship with G-d. -

Mix thoroughly. Feel free to adjust the quantities. 2) Take about a ball of dough the size of a walnut or golf ball and roll it out on a floured countertop. 3) Use a spatula to move it onto a cookie sheet. 4) Make holes in the rolled-out dough using one or more forks. This is important; if you don’t make the holes it will bake into a pita bread. 5) Bake at 400⁰ until it’s hard, then let them cool on a rack. Note: When I’m rolling out the dough I sprinkle some kosher salt (large crystals) and roll the salt into the dough.
