  • And Reconcile Us with Evil a Critical Investigation of the Imagery of Good and Evil in Western Religion, Film, and Politics
...And Reconcile Us With Evil A Critical Investigation of the Imagery of Good and Evil in Western Religion, Film, and Politics Religion in Peace and Conflict Uppsala Universitet, Teologiska Fakulteten Author: Arne L Gellrich Supervisor: Nils Billing Examinator: Kajsa Ahlstrand Abstract With an eye on the current social and political situation in Europe, and with regards to the so-termed refugee crisis, this study aims to map the discourse on assumed good and evil shared among Western cultures, as represented by Sweden, Germany and the United States. The thesis takes its point of departure from essayistic reflections of the philosophical tradition and theological and religious analytical positions respectively. These are then followed by two in- vestigative main chapters, designed along the lines of Norman Fairclough’s approach to critical dis- course analysis (CDA). The first of these chapters studies the narratives of good and evil employed in the mainstream cinema of the past ten years in the mentioned countries. The second analysis is made up of three case studies, in turn looking at similar narratives in the campaigns of the two main competitors in the 2016 presidential race, a German protest movement against free trade agreements, and the everyday political communication of Swedish Facebook us- ers. In a final chapter, findings from all four preceding chapters are brought together in an attempt to sketch an image of the congruences and discrepancies of narratives on good and evil in the overall discursive field. The thesis finds that the discursive field shared by the three investigated societies is largely ho- ...And Reconcile Us With Evil mogenous, with certain imagery permeating all analysed orders of discourse.

  • The Chase Is On! Infamous Cat-And-Mouse Rivals Tom & Jerry
October 28, 2020 The chase is on! Infamous cat-and-mouse rivals Tom & Jerry partner with Macy’s on a zany animatronic float to celebrate their new movie and the 94th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® BURBANK, CA – October 28, 2020 – On November 26th Macy’s and Warner Bros. team up to bring fans a completely new spectacle of fun and fantasy, as beloved frenemies Tom and Jerry showcase their famous brand of comic chaos with an eye-popping float in the 94th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®. An American holiday tradition for more than 90 years with more than 50 million fans nationwide, the Parade is fitting partnership for the timeless pop culture icons as Tom and Jerry share in the good wishes of the season and offer fans a taste of what to expect in the big-screen event film “Tom & Jerry,” opening March 5, 2021. Titled “Tourist Trap,” the hilarious and engaging float features animatronics as well as smoke and other effects to spoof city life by throwing Tom into a series of wild squash-and-stretch sight gags the likes of which have entertained audiences everywhere. Among the indignities Tom endures are run-ins with a steamroller, a truck, a deceptively innocent-looking pretzel stand and a sewer gator. He even inflates like a mini Parade balloon as Jerry, ever the instigator, flies above the pandemonium in a drone helicopter. The float itself, a casualty of the endless mayhem, will lurch and limp down the Parade route. The animated/live-action adventure “Tom & Jerry,” starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost, and Ken Jeong, debuts in theaters on March 5, 2021.

  • HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007
1 HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007 Submitted by Gareth Andrew James to the University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English, January 2011. This thesis is available for Library use on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. ........................................ 2 Abstract The thesis offers a revised institutional history of US cable network Home Box Office that expands on its under-examined identity as a monthly subscriber service from 1972 to 1994. This is used to better explain extensive discussions of HBO‟s rebranding from 1995 to 2007 around high-quality original content and experimentation with new media platforms. The first half of the thesis particularly expands on HBO‟s origins and early identity as part of publisher Time Inc. from 1972 to 1988, before examining how this affected the network‟s programming strategies as part of global conglomerate Time Warner from 1989 to 1994. Within this, evidence of ongoing processes for aggregating subscribers, or packaging multiple entertainment attractions around stable production cycles, are identified as defining HBO‟s promotion of general monthly value over rivals. Arguing that these specific exhibition and production strategies are glossed over in existing HBO scholarship as a result of an over-valuing of post-1995 examples of „quality‟ television, their ongoing importance to the network‟s contemporary management of its brand across media platforms is mapped over distinctions from rivals to 2007.

HENRI WILKINSON SELECTED CREDITS ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL (2019) (Orchestrator) US (2019) (Orchestrator) GREEN BOOK (2018) (Orchestrator) THE HANDMAID’S TALE (2017-2019) (Orchestrator) GOD OF WAR (2018) (Orchestrator) BIOGRAPHY Born in Finland to a half-Finnish half-British family, award-winning composer Henri Wilkinson took an interest in playing the piano at a very early age. His father took him to see "Jurassic Park" in 1993 in Newcastle, England. Accompanied by the astonishing visuals and John Williams' blazing music, alongside with a big carton of caramel-coated popcorn, this event as a powerful emotional experience marked a new interest in Wilkinson's life towards films and film music. In high school, Wilkinson took an interest in jazz to the extent that he pursued further education in jazz piano and composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. After winning an award for a ballad composition and soon after another award for a composition for mixed choir, Wilkinson got an opportunity to compose for several nationally broadcasted television series and commercials and he began actively pursuing a career in composing for film, while continuing to teach and perform. In 2006 Wilkinson received his Master's degree and in 2007 he scored his first theatrical feature film. Wilkinson was accepted to study at the film-scoring program of the USC Thornton School of Music and received several notable grants towards studies in the US. Wilkinson was selected to mentor with multi-Oscar-nominee composer James Newton Howard, and received the opportunity to orchestrate and conduct for an episode of award-winning television series ‘LOST’.
