The detail of the refund wasn’t discussed in the opinion, but the Board did focus on two specifi c issues that affected the refund. February 6 California tax law requires the assessment of sales tax on the sale of all food products when sold Super Bowl Sunday for consumption within a place that charges admission. The Board noted that in all but one loca- tion, the Theatre had changed their operations regarding admissions to its theatre buildings. Instead February 12 of requiring customers to fi rst purchase tickets to enter into the theatre building lobby in which all Lincoln’s Birthday food and drinks were sold, the Theatre opened each lobby to the general public without requiring tickets. The Theatre only required tickets for the customers to enter further into the inside movie February 14 viewing areas of the theatres. An inspiring panel of professionals will share their stories and then meet with students for more personal conversations and questions. Featured on the “A Day in the Life” panel will be representatives from the world of film, TV, music and fashion with professionals from Dreamworks, Boeing and General Motors. In Los Angeles alone, creative industry fields produced more than 418,000 jobs from 2009 to 2015. Research also points to the fact that K-12 participation in media, architecture and product design classes is growing. Our Creative Career Mentors will share their share their stories and offer students insight into what made a vital difference in their success. The goal is to introduce young people to a variety of creative careers, to give them strategies to pursue them and to allow them to see themselves in these roles. The team of professionals features people of color, women and others who are underrepresented in this field. Miller Foreword: Purpose and Mandate of Report This report was commissioned by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA), Canadian Media Guild (CMG), Friends of Canadian Broadcasting (FRIENDS) and UNIFOR to provide an unbiased third-party perspective on the technological, consumer, competitive, financial and regulatory environment facing television, and the sector’s prospects for the future, for collective submission to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in its formal review of the television system1. In response to the Commission’s stated objective of defining a framework for the “future of television”, the commissioning parties believed it important to provide some perspective on what that future might hold, in the short and medium term, and what the implications could be for the system, different players within it, and their capacity to support Canadian programming (including programming of national interest “PNI” and local programming) and other objectives of the Broadcasting Act. Reynolds2 Abstract Movie theaters typically appear adjacent to discussions of new media. Although there has been work on digital cinema, we shift the focus from the digitization of the medium to the digitization of the theatrical audience and analyze the movie theater as new media. To do so, we look at the historical and contemporary strategies for digitizing the theatrical audience of a prominent theater chain. We identify common media of digitization, including credit cards, computerized point-of-sale systems, and loyalty programs. The origins of these techniques and imperatives trace back to the 1970s and 1980s, even as they take on new forms today. We then analyze the industrial logics of audience digitization and emergent communication and data collection methods. Finally, we analyze the movie theater as a platform, showing both the relevance of movie theaters and the challenges their inclusion as an object of study poses for contemporary platform studies.
