For Exhibitors Screendollars August 10, 2020 About Films, the Film Industry No. 129 Newsletter and Cinema Advertising Happy birthday to Stan Durwood, the Founder of AMC Theatres, born 100 years ago on August 5, 1920. Stan was a highly motivated and creative entrepreneur, who expanded the family theatre business he took over in 1960 to become one of the largest theatre chains in the world. He is credited with many innovations that transformed the movie business, most notably, the creation of the multiplex cinema and the invention of the arm-rest cup holder. Purpose-built, multiple- screen, cinema entertainment complexes became Parkway Twin Theatres, the first Multiplex, The dominant force in exhibition in the late 20th century, growing a $2B annual industry in opened in Kansas City on July 12, 1963 1975 to a $6B industry in 1997. He was a proud son of Kansas City, where AMC is based. Welcome Back - Looking Forward to a Brighter 2021 As theatres begin to re-open and the industry comes back to life, we take stock of the positive signs of what lies ahead. The movie business has been interrupted, but it is not broken. Despite the significant challenges this year, when new movies return to theatres, audiences will follow. When circumstances permit, people are going to say to themselves, “I have been stuck at home for months watching streaming, and I’m tired of that. Now I want go out with friends and family, see other people, and experience something fantastic." Vitanza, Committee Chair Stephaine Barczewski Cynthia Haynes Beth Lauritis i ABSTRACT In the following work I create and define the parameters for a specific form of humorous parody. I highlight specific problematic narrative figures that circulate the public sphere and reinforce our serious narrative expectations. However, I demonstrate how critical public pedagogies are able to disrupt these problematic narrative expectations. Humorous parodic narratives are especially equipped to help us in such situations when they work as a critical public/classroom pedagogy, a form of critical rhetoric, and a form of mass narrative therapy. These findings are supported by a rhetorical analysis of these parodic narratives, as I expand upon their ability to provide a practical model for how to create/analyze narratives both inside/outside of the classroom. -

Using a mix of actors and non-actors, the small crew used documentary techniques to give the experience of a true story unfolding in real time. Often filming in four to five locations a day and using a script in which specific dialogue was scarce but the intention for each scene was detailed, actors improvised fully in the moment to allow their characters to develop naturally. Publication date: 28 Oct 2019 Author: Tim Westcott Director, Research and Analysis, Programming France's Banijay Group buys Endemol Shine to create European production giant Brought to you by Informa Tech France's Banijay Group buys Endemol Shine to 1 create European production giant France-based production company Banijay Group has reached agreement to acquire Endemol Shine Group from Walt Disney Company and US hedge fund Apollo Global Management. The price for the deal was not disclosed but is widely reported to be $2.2 billion. A statement from the group said the deal will be financed through a capital increase of Banijay Group and debt. On closure, subject to regulatory clearances and employee consultations. Post-closing, the combined group will be majority owned (67.1%) by LDH, the holding company controlled by Stephane Courbit's LOV Group, and Vivendi (32.9%), which invested in Banijay in 2014. The merged group said it will own almost 200 production companies in 23 territories and the rights for close to 100,000 hours of content, adding that total pro-forma revenue of the combined group is expected to be €3 billion ($3.3 billion) this year. Endemol Shine Group is jointly owned by Disney, which acquired its 50% stake as part of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox last year, and funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management. Endemol Shine has 120 production labels and owns 66,000 hours of scripted and non- scripted programming and over 4,300 registered formats. Our analysis Endemol Shine Group has been up for sale since last year, and Banijay Group appears to be have been the only potential buyer to have made an offer, despite reported interest from All3Media, RTL Group-owned Fremantle and others. -
