In 1994, Cradle of Filth was signed to Cacophonous Records, on which they released their first album "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh". In 1994, Cradle of Filth was signed to Cacophonous Records, on which they released their first album "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh". Cacophonous also pressed the "Vempire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein" EP in 1996. After this the band were signed to Music For Nations, for whom they produced three of their most prominent full length CD's to date: "Dusk and Her Embrace", "Cruelty And The Beast", and "Midian". The "From The Cradle To Enslave" EP and a compilation dubbed "Bitter Suites To Succubi" also featured many original songs, as well as some covers and re-recordings of old songs. Then in 2003, they signed to Sony and released only one album on this record label, "Damnation And A Day". At the beginning of 2004 however, they left Sony and signed to Roadrunner records, through which they released the albums "Nymphetamine" (2004) and their latest "Thornography" (2006). They also have their own label Abracadaver on which "Bitter Suites To Succubi" was released. They hope to sign bands to this label in the near future. The result would be something like Damnation and a Day, a metal album that features a 40-piece orchestra and 32-piece choir, but is still definitely extreme-sounding and can in no way be viewed as a sellout. Cradle of Filth was called a sellout long before they hooked up with Sony. Hardcore black metalers thought their stage show was too cartoony and Alice Cooper-like. That's true in a way -- the band's delivery of dark music comes filtered through a show that's more Cirque du Soleil than satanic. If any black metal band was ever going to be in league with the Beelzebub-owned music industry, it was Cradle of Filth. So not surprisingly, for their major-label debut the filthy ones have come up with a sprawling, 77-minute-long record. It has some grand-sounding moments and is recorded cleanly, with the symphonic and operatic elements being perhaps its best. But it is endless, and only a true Filth fan could tell one song from another. The song titles include "A Bruise Upon the Silent Moon," "The Promise of Fever," and "The Mordant Liquor of Tears," and obviously they are trying for something truly portentous with Damnation and a Day -- but it's a mess. Perhaps someone more level-headed at the record label or a gifted producer could have turned this into a record with real songs. As it is, it's a taxing, less-than-monumental work that won't win them many new mainstream fans, if that's at all what they had in mind. © Adam Bregman /TiVo. Download cradle of filth full album 320. Cradle of Filth are an English extreme metal band that formed in Suffolk in 1991. The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles. Their lyrical themes and imagery are heavily influenced by gothic literature, poetry, mythology and horror films. The band has broken free from its original niche by courting mainstream publicity (often to the chagrin of its early fanbase), giving the band a "commercial" image. This increased accessibility has brought coverage from the likes of Kerrang! and MTV, along with frequent main stage appearances at major festivals such as Ozzfest, Download and even the mainstream Sziget Festival. They have sometimes been perceived as satanic by casual observers, even though their outright lyrical references to Satanism are few and far between; their use of satanic imagery has arguably always been more for shock value rather than any seriously held beliefs. Cradle of Filth's particular subgenre has provoked a great deal of discussion, and their status as a black metal band or otherwise has been in debate since near the time that the group rose to fame. The band have openly mentioned classic '80s black metal acts such as Bathory, Celtic Frost and Mercyful Fate among their influences, but Dani Filth, in a 1998 interview for BBC Radio 5 for example, said "I use the term 'heavy metal', rather than 'black metal', because I think that's a bit of a fad now. Call it what you like: death metal, black metal, any kind of metal. ". Gavin Baddeley's 2006 Terrorizer interview states that "few folk, the band included, call Cradle black metal these days." In a 2006 interview with Terrorizer magazine, current guitarist Paul Allender said, "We were never a black metal band. The only thing that catered to that was the make-up. Even when The Principle of Evil Made Flesh came outyou look at Emperor and Burzum and all that stuffwe didn't sound anything like that. The way that I see it is that we were, and still are now, an extreme metal band." The band's style has been described as symphonic black metal, gothic metal, "gothic black metal" and even "dark metal". However, the band's evolving sound has allowed them to continue resisting definitive categorisation. They are audibly influenced by Iron Maiden, have collaborated on projects like Christian Death's Born Again Anti-Christian album (on the track "Peek-a-Boo" ) and have even dabbled outside of metal music with dance remixes (such as "Twisting Further Nails" and "Pervert's Church" ), although these have fallen by the wayside in recent years. 1991- Daniel Lloyd "Dani Filth" Davey - vocals 1992-1994 Paul Allender - guitars 2000- -//- 2003-2005 James McIlroy - guitars 2010- - //- 2006- Martin "Marthus" karoupka - drums 2012- Daniel Firth - bass. 1991-1992 Darren "Daz" J.
