MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CUP UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CUP INFORMATION FOR ORGANISERS 1. FOREWORD The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is a season-long series of races that tests the skill, stamina and consistency of the world’s best specialists in mountain biking. Over a period of six months, the athletes confront each other time and time again in a bid to claim the leader’s jersey and, ultimately, the overall UCI World Cup title. Hosting a round of this extremely hard-fought competition leads to positive spin-offs both for the sport and the region. The local population has a chance to see mountain bike racing at the highest level, and the venue is showcased as a top mountain bike destination. Be it for Cross-country Olympic (XCO) Cross-country short track (XCC), and/or Downhill (DHI), the World Cup venue must live up to expectations of athletes, fans and sponsors alike. For the organisers, it is a major undertaking and a rewarding and satisfying experience. In order to encourage potential hosts and to simplify their candidature procedure, the UCI has published this Bidding Guide. The aim of this document is to provide National Federations and candidature committees of potential host cities with practical information for preparing their candidature. Questions that regularly crop up from potential hosts are answered in our concise guide, which provides advice for the different stages of the bid procedure. Issues covered include marketing rights, sponsors, budget, course requirements, team areas, and transport and accommodation requirements. I hope that this bidding procedure will be the beginning of a long and successful collaboration between the UCI and the future organisers of a round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

  • Release-Tour of Utah Elevated to UCI Proseries 10-10-19
Tour of Utah Elevated to UCI ProSeries Event for 2020 “America’s Toughest Stage Race” to be held on Aug. 3-9 SALT LAKE CITY (October 10, 2019) – The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced today that the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah has been selected to join the new men’s professional road cycling UCI ProSeries. The international cycling federation also revealed that the race in Utah will take place from Aug. 3-9, 2020. “The Tour of Utah has been recognized for its international racing stature with its inclusion in the UCI ProSeries,” said John Kimball, managing director. “We are thrilled for this designation by cycling’s governing body among its prestigious one-day races and stage races. Our placement on the calendar of events will better allow us to attract top-tier riders and WorldTour teams. We look forward to organizing a race of the highest standard.” The UCI has reorganized its men’s professional road racing structure into three separate divisions: UCI WorldTour, UCI ProSeries and UCI Continental Circuits. The new UCI ProSeries, which includes the best HC and Class 1 races such as the Tour of Utah, will strengthen the second division by ensuring an optimal fit with the UCI WorldTour schedule. “The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah has proven over the years that it has earned the opportunity to be included in the new UCI ProSeries, which will feature many of the best races and historic events from around the world,” said Sean Petty, UCI Road Commission member. “The consistent quality of the race, the start-to-finish streaming of each stage and the incredibly challenging and picturesque courses that showcase Utah are second to none.” The Tour of Utah is the only UCI ProSeries stage race and one of only two events based in North America on the 54-race UCI road calendar.

  • Press Release 24 December 2015
Press Release 24 December 2015 Launch of a new UCI World Ranking The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce the launch of a new UCI World Ranking (for men’s professional road cycling, reflecting a similar ranking in place already for women’s professional road cycling). The UCI World Ranking – individual and nations – will be published in parallel with the UCI WorldTour Ranking (individual, teams and nations). The new UCI World Ranking will be published once a week, each Monday, from January 11th 2016. It will take into account the results of the 52 previous weeks (a rolling system, similar to that of the ATP in tennis). This means it will only come fully into effect one year after its introduction. Its calculation will not be based on a specific series, as is the case with the UCI WorldTour Ranking, but on the entire UCI International Road Calendar (UCI WorldTour, UCI Continental Circuits, UCI World Championships, National and Continental Championships, Olympic Games and Continental Games). All riders who mark points in the races concerned will be part of the UCI World Ranking, including riders who are not members of UCI WorldTeams. The new UCI World Ranking was the subject of a thorough consultation process which took into account the interests and wishes of riders, teams, organisers and National Federations as well as media and fans. In addition, it reflects the most recent discussions of the UCI Road Commission and Professional Cycling Council. These modifications will not affect the UCI Continental Rankings, which will remain just as important on the continents and will continue to be calculated.

UCI CYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2. FOREWORD The first Cycling World Championships were held 125 years ago in Chicago, USA: for track cycling in 1893. Today the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) organises annual World Championships for each of the nine cycling disciplines under its governance. For while the UCI is very proud of the rich history and solid traditions that form the foundations of our sport, we are also constantly innovating to ensure that our events remain dominant in the sports market. For this reason, we have decided to create the UCI Cycling World Championships. This exciting multi-discipline concept will see a total of 15 UCI World Championships held in the same city on three consecutive weekends. To be held every four years starting from 2023, this event will include road, track, mountain bike (cross-country Olympic, downhill, short track and marathon), BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle (Park and Flatland), trials, indoor cycling (artistic cycling and cycle-ball), para-cycling track, para-cycling road and Grand Fondo. Each year, the UCI World Championships for these disciplines incite an enormous amount of enthusiasm: the different events are watched by many millions of fans all over the world. The UCI Cycling World Championships will create a huge buzz and most certainly have an even greater impact. Hosting such a multi-discipline event of this magnitude is a major undertaking and a truly exciting experience! The UCI greatly appreciates the interest and commitment shown by potential organisers. In bidding to host the UCI Cycling World Championships, you have already demonstrated your wish to invest in the future of cycling and I thank you sincerely for that.
