LAKER SPORTS APRIL, 2015 11 by Alex Corrigan and Ben Shepherd The Colchester Lakers experienced varied levels of success during the winter season. Now, the spring season is here and players and coaches share thoughts about their upcoming quests for glory. The Colchester Laker baseball program is coming off a 4-12 season filled with disappointment. But things are looking up for Coach Tom Perry and his squad. Junior Derek Sanderson heads up a blue chip pitching rotation that includes the likes of senior Rob Chase and senior Patrick McHugh. One concern regarding the upcoming season for the Lakers is the health of star infielder Jared Antoniak. When asked about the season Antoniak says, “I should be able to play”. Will the heroes of Saddlemire Field be able to overcome the loss of one of their top performers? Check the schedule and see when you can watch Laker baseball this spring. Coming off a Cinderella semi-final season Coach Courtney Goetz and her softball team brings up the question; can they do it again? Another big question regarding the upcoming season is the lack of re - turning pitching, as no pitchers from last year’s team is still on the team this season. Coach Goetz was asked about her early thoughts about the season and said “If we can just build on where we were last year, that would be great.” The team hopes they can figure it out and get back to climbing the Vermont softball ladder. The Colchester boys' lacrosse team coached by Dan Shepherd is entering its sec - ond Division I season. There are two big questions that this year’s Laker squad will have to answer. 1. A Variety of Creativity by Erin Somerville Photos courtesy CHSYearbook staff

For the second year, classes geared up and put on their war paint for a very special event that was revived last school year:Variety Night. It’s the night where the classes take part in some friendly competition by writing, directing, and performing their own 20-25 minute skits. Each class has the chance to win various awards, including Best Dance, Best Set, Second Place Overall, and First Place Overall. Each class brought their A-game this year, everybody trying their hardest to get their class name on the Variety Night Cup, the new trophy for the winners of the exciting event. In the end, the Class of 2015 took home six out of eight of the awards, including Best Actor (Timothy Lewis) and a Producers’ Choice Award (Daniel Demars). Overall, the juniors came in second, and the class of 2015 defended their championship and took home First Place Overall, along with Best Set, Best Dance and the Class Spirit Award. Lewis won Best Actor for his role as Flavian Bonaventure. The two judges choice awards went to junior Patrick LaCroix as Donny and Chad the pizza guy, and the second to the freshman quartet (Bella Lopez, Emily White, Kristian Labrie, and Morgan Eaton).
