  • Press Release Kabbalah & Alchemy
Kabbalah & Alchemy Exhibition Embassy of the Free Mind 13 June - 16 November 2019 The Embassy of the Free Mind (EFM) is proud to present its first exhibition in its new premises The House with the Heads: Kabbalah & Alchemy, which is on show from 13 June -16 November 2019. The EFM is a library, a museum and a platform for free thinking. Kabbalah and alchemy were traditionally regarded as hidden currents in European cultural history. The EFM wishes to explore with this exhibition the relatively unknown relationship between these two disciplines by means of richly illustrated manuscripts and printed books from the 16th-18th centuries, deriving from its Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica Collection and seven special Hebrew loans from the Amsterdam Ets Haim – Livraria Montezinos, the oldest still functioning Jewish library in the world. Closer to God Kabbalah is a Jewish mystical tradition that was passed down from generation to generation in circles of adepts. Kabbalists based themselves on the assumption that the Hebrew language was divine in origin, the language also in which God had created heaven and earth. By meditating on the letters of the Hebrew alphabet and the various divine names, kabbalists hoped to be able to come closer to God. The mystical longing to know God is also reflected in the image of the tree of life, represented in the exhibition by the oldest known printed woodcut from 1516. The ten divine attributes - Hebrew: sefirot – of this tree of life are the attributes through which God reveals himself to man. From lead to gold Alchemy has its roots in the Graeco-Roman Egypt of the first centuries CE.

  • Några Av Släkten Grills Gods Och Gårdar
Några av släkten Grills gods och gårdar. Grillska huset.

ESSWE7 Locations 24 © Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed 3 of Contents Table Conference Description Western Esotericism and Consciousness: Visions, Voices, Altered States The history of Western esotericism from antiquity to the present is filled with reports of unusual and sometimes spectacular experiences that are claimed to convey higher, deeper, or even absolute knowledge about the true nature of reality. Some typical exam- ples are the many references to direct supra-rational gnosis, ecstatic experiences, and states of divine manía (madness or frenzy) or possession from antiquity to the present; visionary travels to other places, other worlds, or other levels of reality, as well as to past or future periods and events; visionary encounters with intermediary beings (for instance angels, demons, spirits, elementals, ascended masters, divinities); the hearing of inner voices, receiving or “channeling” of spiritual messages, and communication with disembodied entities; and ineffable experiences (for instance apophatic unity) that are difficult or impossible to express through normal discursive language. Common to all such reports is that they fall within the general phenomenology of human con- sciousness and seem to require some kind of modification or alteration of the normal or average mental states that allow us to negotiate consensus reality.

Christian Greer A hybrid event, live-streamed from Amsterdam Organized by L. Faith Pramuk & Misha Kakabadze Embassy of the Free Mind Keizersgracht 123 1015CJ Amsterdam Conference Description The idea of ‘transformation’ manifests in different ways in the history of esotericism.Whether we think about ideas and practices of individual deification, alchemical transmutation, or global consciousness change in New Age schemes, ‘transformation’ appears an almost unavoidable concept within the field. While not exclusive to esotericism (e.g. ‘transubstantiation’ in the Christian Eucharist), notions of transformation do seem to occupy a privileged space specifically in esoteric belief systems and practices. If this is indeed the case, we could investigate its underlying reasons. Is the centrality of ‘transformation’ symptomatic of larger patterns intrinsic to esoteric epistemologies and/or ontologies? Or does ‘transformation’ merely unify an array of contingent phenomena otherwise unrelated? Either way, investigating the plural manifestations of ‘transformation’ seems a fruitful undertaking by virtue of its pronounced presence in the history of esotericism itself, and will hopefully stimulate further reflections in this area. The idea for this conference emerged when its organizers were thinking about different ways of fostering communication and community among students (BA, MA, PhD) in esotericism

‘The idea of Drebbel as a universal wonderworker was as widespread in the seventeenth century as the idea of Einstein as a genius is today." zegt Dr. Vera Keller, die in september 2009 op Princeton University ‘op Drebbel’ promoveert met haar dissertatie met de titel: ‘Cornelis Drebbel, Fame and the Making of Modernity’.
