Von Ruschein aus hat man eine Einwohner 360 herrliche Aussicht auf die Surselva und in Richtung Val Lumnezia. Das Dorf liegt auf rund 1160 m.ü.M. Mit dem Auto gelangt man in ca. 5 min. von Ilanz nach Ruschein. Eine Bezirk Surselva regelmässige Postautoverbindung führt zudem von Ilanz nach Ruschein. In der Win- Kanton Graubünden tersaison verbindet ein Skibus Ruschein mit dem Wintersportgebiet Flims-Laax-Falera. Meereshöhe 1‘155 m ü. M. Bei guten Schneeverhältnissen ist die Talabfahrt vom Crap Masegn (Wintersportge- biet Flims-Laax-Falera) bis ins Dorf Ruschein möglich. Die Region Surselva bietet im Sommer und Winter eine Vielzahl von Freizeit- und Sportangeboten. Neben Wanderungen und Mountainbike-Touren hat man im Sommer auch die Möglichkeit in Sagogn, ca. 10 min. von Ruschein entfernt, Golf zu spielen. Im Winter stehen in der Surselva einige Wintersportgebiete zur Verfügung, welche verschiedene Zielgruppen ansprechen, wie z.B. Obersaxen-Mundaun-Val Lumnezia, Bri- gels-Waltensburg-Andiast, Disentis-Sedrun, Flims-Laax-Falera. Da Ruschein ungefähr im Zentrum der Surselva liegt, erreicht man alle erwähnten Wintersportgebiete in ca. 15 – 30 min. Fahrzeit mit dem Auto. Ruschein affords a wonderful view over the Surselva and towards Einwohner 360 Val Lumnezia. The village is at a height of about 1160 metres above sea level. Ruschein Bezirk Surselva is about a 5 minute drive from Ilanz. A regular post bus also links Ilanz with Ruschein. In the winter season a ski bus links Ruschein with the Flims-Laax-Falera winter sport Kanton Graubünden area. If snow conditions are good, it is possible to ski down from Crap Masegn (the Meereshöhe 1‘155 m ü. M. Flims-Laax-Falera winter sport area) right into the village of Ruschein. As well as walking and mountain-biking in the summer, there is also the opportunity to play golf in Sagogn which is only about 10 minutes from Ruschein. In the winter a number of winter sport areas which appeal to different target groups are available in the Sur- selva region, for example Obersaxen-Mundaun-Val Lumnezia, Brigels-Waltensburg-Andiast, Disentis-Sedrun and Flims-Laax-Falera. As Ruschein lies more or less in the centre of the Surselva region, all the above winter sport areas can be reached in about 15 - 30 minutes driving time by car.     Varietäten und Sprachkontakt in rätoromanischen SMS* Matthias Grünert (Zürich) Abstract As a minority language in Switzerland, the Romansh of the Grisons is exposed to pressure from the dominant language in its region, namely (Swiss) German. Consequently, it has not developed a generally accepted standardized written form, being above all a spoken language, which cedes many written functions to the dominant language. These premises entail a complex spectrum of language variation in informal written use of Romansh in SMS- communication. This variation includes deviations from regional written norms, traits of (dialectal) orality, interference of (Swiss) German, and code-switching to (Swiss) German. Language contact is evident in the fact that Romansh is used for part of an SMS whereas another part of the same SMS sent by the same person may be written in one or even in two varieties of the majority language, i.e. German and Swiss German. Some speakers of Romansh, mainly people who live outside of the traditional linguistic territory, do not write in Romansh at all. It should be noted that the users of Romansh in SMS-communication who participated in this research project are mainly women with university-level educations who are working in the tertiary sector. 1 Das erste SMS-Korpus zum Rätoromanischen Graubündens Im Rahmen des Projektes sms4science ist das erste Korpus von SMS, die im Räto- romanischen Graubündens1 verfasst sind, zustande gekommen.     Alpine Common Property Institutions under Change: Conditions for Successful and Unsuccessful Collective Action of Alpine Farmers in the Canton Graubünden of Switzerland Gabriela Landolt, Tobias Haller Abstract: The goal to protect and sustainably manage alpine summer pastures is stated in the Swiss state law since 1996 and direct subsidy payments from the state for summer pasturing have been bound to sustainability criteria since 2000 reflecting the increasing value of the alpine cultural landscape as a public good. However, the provision of the public good remains in the hands of the local farmers and their local common pool resource (CPR) institutions to manage the alpine pastures and those institutions increasingly struggle with upholding their institutional arrangements particularly regarding the communal work, called Gemeinwerk, necessary to maintain the pastures. This paper examines two case studies of local CPR institutions to manage alpine pastures in the canton Graubünden of Switzerland manifesting different institutional developments in the light of changing conditions. Explanations for the unequal reactions to change and their impacts on the provision of the CPR are provided by focusing on relative prices, bargaining power and ideology as drivers of institutional change often neglected within common property research. At the same time the places of education and employment play an important role. On the other hand the ownership of mobility tools, such as cars and different public transport season tickets are complementary elements in this process, which also bind substantial resources. These two aspects of mobility behaviour are closely connected to one another. A longitudinal perspective on these relationships is available from people's life courses, which link different dimensions of life together. Besides the personal and familial history locations of residence, education and employment as well as the ownership of mobility tools can be taken into account. In order to study the dynamics of long-term and mid- term mobility a retrospective survey covering the 20 year period from 1985 to 2004 was carried out in the year 2005 in a stratified sample of municipalities in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland.
