PHILIPPINES A Youth Development Organization on Transformational Leadership iZA < . ^

Background

The / Transform! Campaign is a youth campaign developed by YouthLEAD Philippines that endeavors to meet the challenges of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the communities. It focuses to galvanize action among young Filipinos to make a difference in their communities by working with fellow youths in identifying problems and solutions related to the MDGs and which over time leads to outcomes. The eight MDGs - which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 - form a blueprint agreed to by all the world's countries and the world's leading development institutions.

To localize the campaign, YouthLEAD Philippines created the Bohol Young Leaders Empowerment Forum (BYLEF) in 2012 as an inclusive avenue where Boholano young leaders meet to discuss, engage, and interact on timely and relevant problems and then find ways to address them through agreed shared actions. Now in its third year, the aim of the BYLEF is to influence young leaders to think, work, and act together and make them active catalysts of Bohol's growth and development. It also endeavors to inculcate patriotism, nationalism, and good values to prepare them to the bigger task of leading the communities in Bohol and beyond as empowered transformational leaders.

Bannering the theme "Protecting our Environment and Being Prepared, Towards a Greener and Brighter Bohol", the 2015 BYLEF will focus on MDG 7 which is ensuring environmental sustainability where it will also include discussions on climate change and disaster risk reduction management. More than 10 speakers will be invited to share powerful thoughts on the theme which will be followed by plenary interactions. The inputs that will be shared in the plenary sessions and interactions will then serve as basis for the formulation of the Youth Action Framework which will be presented to government and non-government stakeholders on the second day. The third BYLEF will be held in conjunction with TOSPAC's Youth Hours, an activity intended to encourage organizations to adopt tangible programs that embrace excellence in leadership, academic, and social responsibility for young leaders. General Objectives

The BYLEF aims to raise awareness the environmental assets, issues, and challenges facing the youth in their communities, and to agree on shared actions that will lead to the protection and sustainability of the environment. Further, the BYLEF aims to educate the youth on DRRM and to enlist their active involvement in DRRM-related activities in the province. The Consortium

The third BYLEF is organized by YouthLEAD Philippines, in close collaboration with the City Government of Tagbilaran and the Provincial Government of Bohol through the Provincial Youth Development Council. It is partnered with the Outstanding Students of the Philippines Alumni Community of Region 7 (TOSPAC 7), Bohol Alliance of Student Councils (BASC), Red Cross Youth Bohol Chapter, Ubay Social Organization for New Initiatives, Rotaract Club of Tagbilaran Community-Based (RCTCB), Rotaract Club of Panglao Island, Deaf Boholanos Society, and One Bohol. It is supported and endorsed by the Department of Education and the Department of Interior and Local Government. Expected Participants

The expected number of participants will be 200 (age 16 to 25), who will come from various youth organizations in the province.
