Oregon Department of Transportation News Release Region 1 Columbia, Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas and Hood River Counties March 16, 2012 12-18 For More Information: Kimberly Dinwiddie, (503) 731-8281 E-mail: [email protected] AREA ROAD CONSTRUCTION: MARCH 17 - 24, 2012 Interstate 5 (Pacific Highway) Iowa Street Viaduct Replacement: A contractor is working to replace a viaduct on I-5 that crosses a ravine at SW Iowa Street (milepost 298) just north of Terwilliger Boulevard (exit 297) and just south of Corbett Avenue (exit 298). The project includes building a temporary detour bridge on the west side of I-5. The hiking trail that crosses under I-5 connecting Terwilliger Boulevard to Corbett Street remains closed during this project. During the week of Monday, March 19, through Friday, March 23, the contractor will work on the east side of the freeway building retaining walls, new bridge columns, working on electrical systems and widening shoulders. This work requires daytime shoulder closures in both directions on I-5 in the project area. Motorists should expect trucks entering and exiting the northbound lanes of I-5 from the worksite between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The speed limit on I-5 is reduced to 50 mph in the work area. This speed reduction is in effect 24 hours a day and will remain in place for the duration of the project. Please be alert to enhanced police traffic patrols in the work area. For more information: www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/iowaviaduct/ Interstate 5 (Pacific Highway) Holladay Street to Marquam Bridge: Work is under way on a project to install variable speed limit signs on I-5 and I-405 in the Portland area and to perform concrete repairs and bridge deck work on I-5 between Holladay Street in the Rose Quarter and the north end of the Marquam Bridge. Most of the bridge and concrete repair work on I-5 will take place in 2012. No work is planned on this project this week. This lane extension will continue south and connect with the existing exit-only lane for Lower Boones Ferry Road. Additional work includes shifting east the I-5 southbound on-ramp from Carman Drive to better align with the new lane. Construction should be complete in August 2012. The contractor plans to work behind barrier on I-5 southbound and on the I-5 southbound on- ramp from Carman Drive during daytime hours. The work not impact traffic. For more information: http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/carman/ Interstate 5 (Pacific Highway) at Interstate 205 (Veterans Memorial Highway): Work continues on a project to add an exit-only lane on I-5 northbound between SW Elligsen Road in Wilsonville and Interstate 205 northbound. Work includes widening the shoulders on I-5, removing noxious weeds, improving landscaping, replacing signs and protecting wetlands. Work requiring lane closures will take place at night when traffic volumes on I-5 are lower. Work is suspended on this project and will resume in May. The contractor will expand Wilsonville Road from six to eight lanes near the I-5 interchange, improve the I-5 on- and off-ramps, landscaping and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Daytime work will include crews working on retaining walls on the I-5 northbound Wilsonville Road off-ramp and along Wilsonville Road. Work also continues on building the new northbound off-ramp. Drivers will encounter occasional nighttime lane closures along Wilsonville Road. Work includes widening the I-84 eastbound exit 17 off-ramp, adding a lane to the North and South Frontage Roads and improving the intersection of I-84 westbound and Graham Road. No work is planned this week. For more information: www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/troutdaleexit17/ Interstate 84 (Columbia River Highway) Rooster Rock Overpass Project: Construction is beginning on a project to raise the overpass on I-84 at Rooster Rock State Park to better accommodate large freight loads that travel on the freeway. The overpass and access to Rooster Rock State Park will be closed for 11 days in March. Construction will be complete in 2012. This week, the contractor will close one lane on the I-84 eastbound Rooster Rock on- and off- ramps from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. There are no planned lane closures on I-84. Repair two bridges over Jordan Road east of the Sandy River at I-84 exit 18. I-84 over the Sandy River (milepost 18): Eastbound lanes have shifted to a temporary alignment. Watch for speed limit reduced to 50 mph in both directions. Please drive carefully through the work zone. Approach the work area with caution. Stay clear of construction activities. Please follow instructions from flaggers. For more information: www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/ColumbiaGorge/ U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) Modernization Project: Cornell Road to 185th Avenue: A th contractor is widening U.S. 26 between Cornell Road and 185 Avenue to include three lanes in each direction. Once complete, there will also be median cable barrier, widened shoulders, and new pavement and striping. Work is scheduled to be complete in fall 2012. The contractor plans to work on storm water systems, fiber optic cable and signs with no impact to traffic. There will be right shoulder closures on U.S. 26 eastbound in the project area. For more information: www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/US26_Mod/index.shtml U.S. 30 (Lower Columbia River Highway) Eilertsen Creek Bridge Construction: A contractor is working to replace a culvert on U.S. 30 near Woodson Road, five miles west from Clatskanie. Replacing the culvert with a bridge will allow the water from Eilertsen Creek to flow freely, reducing the chances of debris flows. Work on this project will resume in the spring. The contractor will be doing electrical and sidewalk work, adjusting signal heads and striping (weather permitting). This will require intermittent single lane closures on TV Highway during daytime hours. Hood Highway) White River Bridge: Work continues on a project on Oregon Highway 35 to reconstruct the highway and build a new bridge over the White River (milepost 61 – 62) and the Clark Newton (milepost 65 – 68). This area has experienced significant debris flow in past winters damaging the highway and bridge. Work on this project will resume in spring 2012.
