Over the years, Belgian politicians have played a prominent role in European politics. There was always a shared feeling among the population that integration with Europe was useful and in the national interest. In recent times, however, this consensus has been somewhat worn down. n 2009, the first President of the European Council to be appointed was a I Belgian, when Herman Van Rompuy became “President of Europe”. Five years later Donald Tusk, a former prime minister of Poland, took over the helm. And five years after that, in 2019, the role fell to a Belgian once more: Charles Michel fit the jigsaw of nominations and was asked by his colleagues to chair the European Council. Belgians have quite often had a steering role in European politics. Si bien actualmente existe discusión en torno al tipo de vínculo que debe establecerse entre los funcionarios del Estado con el sector empresario para favorecer un sendero de desarrollo, hay un consenso bastante amplio acerca de los riesgos que para el desarrollo económico, para la inclusión social y para la democratización de la vida política que implica la colonización por parte de las fracciones del capital concentrado del aparato estatal. La historia argentina tiene pruebas suficientes acerca de la existencia de estos nexos estrechos y las implicancias nocivas que tienen para el desarrollo y el bienestar del pueblo. El enraizamiento del sector privado sobe el aparato del Estado tiene un denominador común que atraviesa históricamente los distintos ciclos de acumulación y que se trata del afán de la burguesía local por la obtención de rentas de privilegio, (muy alejadas de lo que en la literatura económica se conoce como las rentas tecnológicas schumpeterianas de carácter transitorias), y más asociadas al carácter parasitario de corporaciones empresarias que se expanden al calor de los recursos públicos y la protección del estado.     March 8, 2021 Dear President, dear Ursula, We welcome the letter of 1 March that you received from Chancellor Merkel and PM Frederiksen, PM Kallas and PM Marin. We share many of the ideas outlined in the letter. Indeed, there are some points that we find are of particular importance as we work to progress the digital agenda for the EU. We certainly agree that our agenda must be founded on a good mix of self-determination and openness. Our approach to digital sovereignty must be geared towards growing digital leadership by preparing for smart and selective action to ensure capacity where called for, while preserving open markets and strengthening global cooperation and the external trade dimension. Digital innovation benefits from partnerships among sectors, promoting public and private cooperation. Translating excellence in research and innovation into commercial successes is crucial to creating global leadership. The Single Market remains key to our prosperity and to the productivity and competitiveness of European companies, and our regulatory framework needs to be made fit for the digital age. We need a Digital Single Market for innovation, to eliminate barriers to cross-border online services, and to ensure free data flows. Attention must be paid to the external dimension where we should continue to work closely with our allies around the world and where in our interest, develop new partnerships. We need to make sure that the EU can be a leader of a responsible digital transformation. Trust and innovation are two sides of the same coin. Europe’s competitiveness should be built on efficient, trustworthy, transparent, safe and responsible use of data in accordance with our shared values.

    TDB joins eminent discussants on Sustainable Development Goals in Kigali Opened in July 2016, The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) was created in 2016 and launched in Kigali on 27 January 2017. The SDGC/A is an international organization that supports governments, civil society, businesses and academic institutions in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa. A conference was organized to launch the new institution and was attended by development partners, government leaders and private sector representatives. The President and CEO of TDB, Mr Admassu Tadesse joined other eminent participants and panellists including His Excellency Rwandese President Paul Kagame and His Excellency Minister Claver Gatete, Minister of Finance of Rwanda and TDB Governor. Mr Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and one of the strongest advocates of the SDGs also joined the panellists to bring his private sector perspective. According to SGDC/A the investment gap for Africa to achieve the SDGs is between an incremental outlay of $200 billion and $1.2 trillion per annum. TDB’s President joined panellists to discuss how Africa can achieve The SDGs By 2030. Mr Tadesse emphasized the key role of DFIs in supporting the continent in achieving SDGs and the crucial role that regional DFIs play in fostering regional integration. In the case of TDB, Member States are using the Bank as a platform to grow regional trade as well as a vehicle to host innovative initiatives such as regional infrastructure funds. Several regional DFIs exchanged on their strategies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Many of TDB’s partners and development banks of the region were in attendance, notably the Agriculture Finance Cooperation, Development Bank of Zambia, Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe and the Uganda Development Bank.

De affaire werd vervolgens op verzoek van de Tweede Kamer onderzocht door een commissie onder leiding van de voormalige Nationaal Ombudsman Marten Oosting , die in december concludeerde dat [2]. Kort na publicatie van Oostings rapport trad Kamervoorzitter Van Miltenburg af, omdat zij eerder in het jaar een anonieme brief aan de Kamer met details over de Teevendeal had vernietigd. Begin werd de commissie-Oosting herbenoemd om de gang van zaken omtrent de zoektocht naar het afschrift te onderzoeken, nadat de suggestie was gewekt dat bewindspersonen die hadden gedwarsboomd. Een jaar later kreeg de affaire een verder vervolg, nadat Nieuwsuur -journalist Bas Haan suggereerde dat Van der Steur nog tijdens Opsteltens bewind informatie over de Teevendeal voor zijn collega-Kamerleden achtergehouden had: met name de wetenschap dat Teeven zich het precieze bedrag in wél wist te herinneren. In oktober erkende oud- minister van Justitie Ivo Opstelten toe "cruciale fouten" te hebben gemaakt in de affaire.
