AUGUST 2009 Alicia arrington WThe Many Sides of Alicia Warrington THE BLACK PAGE THE BLACK PAGE 3rd Anniversary Edition: Dedicated to James Forbes Chapin Forward by Dom Famularo first met Jim in 1969 here on Long Island. He was friends Iwith my teacher Al Miller, and we would go to see Buddy Rich perform backstage. Jim would tell me what Buddy was doing and an- alyze it to the slightest movement. My visit with the “Chapin Magic” started. Jim was always so sharing with his hard-earned knowledge. He simply taught the best drummers in the 20th century and was work- ing on the 21st century. His books, CDs and DVD is a university of information; owning them all is a must! I have learned from him, taught with him, performed with him and even played for him while he sang. He loved life and music equally. I am a better person for having experienced the “Chapin Mag- ic!” He was called the Father of Drumming Independence. How ironic of him to pass away on July 4th, America’s Independence. Jim will live long in his contributions ... I ask the future generations of drummers to continue in seeking out the wealth of sharing that Jim gave us. Now on the 4th of July, look up at the fireworks and cel- ebrate the magic of Jim Chapin! LEONID AND FRIENDS PERFORMING THE MUSIC OF CHICAGO AT THE FLORIDA THEATRE ON OCTOBER 3, 2021 Tickets Are On Sale Now Jacksonville, Fla. (May 28, 2021) –The Florida Theatre is pleased to announce the return of Leonid and Friends performing the music of Chicago on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. With multiple sold-out U.S. tours under its belt and hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, Leonid & Friends continues to astound its global audience with its unique ability in capturing the spirit, musicality, and fire of American supergroup Chicago. And what is even more stunning is that Leonid & Friends, comprised of 11 of the finest musicians in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus, haven't seen Chicago perform live, yet replicates the band’s complex arrangements amazingly note for note. Chicago has never been in Russia, and none of us have attended their concerts," said Leonid Vorobyev, a multi - instrumentalist who is the band’s leader. " We have only recordings and videos (to help us l earn Chicago songs)." Ironically, Vorobyev wasn’t always a fan of horn bands, and as a teenager gravitated to the hard-driving guitar-based sounds of the Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, and Grand Funk Railroad. " In the early 1970s in the USSR, electric guitars, amplifiers, and drums were rare to find so at school we were playing self-made instruments," Vorobyev explained. " We were allowed to rehearse in the same room with a horns band. Those musicians almost always were drunk and quite often tried to play with us our rock songs. -

Cta Biographies
CTA BIOGRAPHIES Danny Seraphine, drums Danny Seraphine is one of the world’s most highly-respected rock drummers, rated by the legendary Buddy Rich as one of his favorite young drummers. He was the drummer, percussionist and a founding member of the multi-million selling, Grammy award-wining band Chicago. From 1967 to 1990, Seraphine played on and helped produce 18 gold and 13 platinum albums, 50 Top 40 hits, including 20 Top 10 singles, and 5 number ones. Seraphine grew up in Chicago, Illinois and started playing drums at the age of nine, eventually studying privately with famed percussionist Bob Tillis. After forming Chicago in 1967 he continued studying the drums, first with big band drummer Chuck Flores, then with legendary jazz drummer Jo Jones. When Danny and Chicago parted company in 1990, he moved to Colorado to set up his own label and production company. Return- ing to Los Angeles in 2001, Seraphine continued to produce and manage recording art- ists, and produce Broadway and off-Broadway shows. All this time, Danny continued playing drums, but it was after conversations with his friends, composer and musician Peter Fish, Don Lombardi (Chairman and Founder) and John Good (Vice President) of DW Drums which started him thinking about forming a band. Danny was introduced to Marc Bonilla by drummer extraordinaire Greg Bisson- ette and as soon as they started jamming together, they developed a rapport. Seraphine and Bonilla initially put a band together to play for several charity benefit shows. The response was so overwhelming that they decided to get serious and put a full 70-minute set together and so ‘CTA’ was born.
