The band Chicago has always boasted multiple singer/songwriters—that’s one reason they’ve been able to generate so many memorable hits during their 38-year career. But the man most responsible for the songs that put the group on the map is keyboardist/vocalist Robert Lamm, who wrote such classics as “Beginnings,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and “Saturday in the Park.” “P EOPLE HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE IT WHEN THEY TELL ME In the ensuing years, Lamm created four solo albums, most how much those songs have meant in their lives,” says recently 2003’s Subtlety and Passion . Says that’s required in the Lamm, “Those solo albums have been as necessary to me as Brooklyn-born Lamm relocated to Chicago as a teen, where live version of Chicago, life itself.” he studied classical music while also playing in bands. “By so now it’s the only the time Chicago formed, I was a total Beatles kid,” he recalls. -

Alicia Warrington Arrington a Licia Licia the BLACK PAGE 3Rd Anniversary Edition: Dedicated to James Forbes Chapin
AUGUST 2009 Alicia arrington WThe Many Sides of Alicia Warrington THE BLACK PAGE THE BLACK PAGE 3rd Anniversary Edition: Dedicated to James Forbes Chapin Forward by Dom Famularo first met Jim in 1969 here on Long Island. He was friends Iwith my teacher Al Miller, and we would go to see Buddy Rich perform backstage. Jim would tell me what Buddy was doing and an- alyze it to the slightest movement. My visit with the “Chapin Magic” started. Jim was always so sharing with his hard-earned knowledge. He simply taught the best drummers in the 20th century and was work- ing on the 21st century. His books, CDs and DVD is a university of information; owning them all is a must! I have learned from him, taught with him, performed with him and even played for him while he sang. He loved life and music equally. I am a better person for having experienced the “Chapin Mag- ic!” He was called the Father of Drumming Independence. How ironic of him to pass away on July 4th, America’s Independence. Jim will live long in his contributions ... I ask the future generations of drummers to continue in seeking out the wealth of sharing that Jim gave us. Now on the 4th of July, look up at the fireworks and cel- ebrate the magic of Jim Chapin! Legendary American Rock Band Chicago to Perform Live with Charlotte Symphony One Night Only: 8 Pm Sat, Sept 21 at Belk Theater
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jamie Wolf, 704-714-5112 or [email protected] LEGENDARY AMERICAN ROCK BAND CHICAGO TO PERFORM LIVE WITH CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY ONE NIGHT ONLY: 8 PM SAT, SEPT 21 AT BELK THEATER August 21, 2013 | CHARLOTTE, NC - Chicago—one of the most successful rock groups in history—is bringing its powerful live show to open the Charlotte Symphony's Pops Series this fall. From the signature sound of the Chicago horns, their iconic vocalists and a few dozen ever-classic songs, this band’s concerts are celebrations! The band line-up includes original Chicago members Robert Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone and Walt Parazaider on woodwinds. Other members are Jason Scheff on bass and vocals, drummer Tris Imboden, guitarist Keith Howla, Lou Pardini on keyboards and vocals and Wally Reyes on percussion. Symphony-goers may find this interesting: original member Parazaider, a De Paul University graduate, was offered a spot with the Chicago Symphony in the early years but opted to stick with the band instead. The “legendary rock and roll band with horns,” Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six consecutive decades. In Billboard Magazine's list of Top 100 artists of all time, Chicago came in at #13, the highest charting American band, having produced an incredible 47 gold and platinum records. Most recently, in March of 2013, Chicago’s multi-platinum two-disc bestseller, The Very Best Of Chicago, Only The Beginning charted at #1 on two Billboard charts: the Catalog Chart and the Digital Catalog chart. -
The Roots Report: E-Nnoying!: Those Highway Signs Should Hit the Road
The Roots Report: E-nnoying!: Those highway signs should hit the road Okee dokee folks… Have you noticed the illuminated message signs along our major highways and the annoyingly punny sayings on them? Personally, I think that these signs should be used for one thing only: emergencies. Instead, they visually shout stupidity at you as you pass. They are such a turn-off because they never seem to be turned off so I TRY to ignore them, which is exactly the opposite of what they are there for. Last month, with St. Paddy’s approaching, they constantly flashed out messages like, “Make your own luck, drive sober” and “You’re someone’s pot of gold, drive sober.” Yes, I agree, drive sober, but a driver has to take their eyes off the road to read the message. If you don’t know enough to drive sober, I seriously doubt that this electronic conscience is going to influence your imbibing, especially with puerile quips such as these. Other examples read: “Use yah blinkah,” “That seat belt looks good on you” and “Santa sees you when you’re speeding.” Maybe the sign people just aren’t getting enough emergencies to light write about. Maybe they should become songwriters and hit the open mics; they might be less annoying this way. Am I alone? Read on… Ding, Da-Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding… Does that sound familiar? Ha! Well, it’s the plucking banjo intro of the instrumental “Dueling Banjos” from the motion picture, Deliverance. The film was about four friends taking an ill-fated canoe trip through northern Georgia and starred Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox. -
