The representatives of the Europe Regional Network of World Green Building Council claim that the building emissions in Europe create up to 36% of the total carbon dioxide production. Therefore, the application of ecological building materials can be one of the possible ways to reach equilibrium between the social-economic growth and green development. The main objective of this paper was to find out the approach of people in urban and rural settlements in Slovakia towards the question of green development in terms of selection of building material for the construction of a family house and their economic-social situation. The issue was mapped in Slovakia using the empirical survey in the form of a questionnaire.

Abstract All words have inherent properties linked to their form, meaning and usage patterns affecting when they are acquired and how easily they are processed. As languages and cultures differ, words with equivalent meanings may be acquired at different ages across languages. Cross- linguistic research and assessment must take such differences into account; this issue is particu- larly important for a valid assessment of multilingual children. In addition, children’s language acquisition is influenced by their dispositions and personal preferences as well as their linguistic and sociocultural environment. This dissertation asks how linguistic factors may account for the composition of monolingual and bilingual children’s lexicons, and whether a tool that does take such factors into account can be expected to yield comparable results across different groups of bilinguals. It explores data on lexical development and tests two new assessment tools designed to provide a valid assessment of bilingual children’s language skills; one of these tools is also used to profile the children’s language background (exposure and use).

  • Research on Housing Bubbles in the Capitals of the Baltic and Central Europe*
ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT: 2012. 17 (2) ISSN 2029-9338 (ONLINE) ISSN 1822-6515 (CD-ROM) RESEARCH ON HOUSING BUBBLES IN THE CAPITALS OF THE BALTIC AND CENTRAL EUROPE* Rytis Krušinskas Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, [email protected] Abstract Economic prosperity was not only the Baltic states, other Central European countries in the region, such as Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia also faced worldwide growth - boom in housing prices which exceeded most analysts' forecasts and rational expectations. Therefore, this article examines and assesses how the global financial crisis, what started in the housing sector, affected similar economic development level countries by the calculation of price to income method approach for housing bubble size estimation in the Baltic countries and Central European countries capitals. Obtained results reveal that housing prices boom mostly affected the Baltic States capitals. The largest housing bubble of all Central European capitals was formed in Warsaw. Improvement of the economic situation, rising inhabitants income, decreasing unemployment, rising prices for construction and profitability of housing investment, at the same time rising issuance of housing loans is creating a highly favourable conditions for the housing price bubble formation. Keywords: housing bubble, price to income method. JEL Classification: G01, G19, G20, G21 Introduction As rapid globalization is taking place, during the past few decades considerable number of scientists (Bjöklund & Söderberg, 1999; Case & Shiller, 2003; Helbing, 2003; Belinskaja & Rutkauskas, 2007; Khumpaisal & Chen, 2009; Goodman & Thibodeau, 2008; Tupėnaitė & Kanapeckienė, 2009; Èadil, 2009; Azbainis, 2009; Kuodis, 2004; Vanichvatana, 2007; Macdonald, 2010) focus on analysis of housing bubbles, identification of their causes, development of methods for calculation of the extent of housing bubbles, because formation and later inevitable collapse of price bubbles historically caused significant problems for sustainable development of the economy.

THE JOHN MARSHALL REVIEW OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW AMBER TEARS AND COPYRIGHT FEARS: THE INADEQUATE PROTECTION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE UNITED STATES INGRIDA R. LATOZA ABSTRACT The United States is comprised of many different cultural communities, each rich with expressions of language and custom. Cultural diversity promotes respect among individuals and harmonizes differences between communities—nationally and globally. Through the preservation of cultural heritage, diversity is maintained. Since World War II, with the exile of many from Lithuania, members of the Lithuanian-American community have strived to maintain the cultural heritage of their beloved homeland. After several decades, a Lithuanian-American cultural identity has developed, creating unique and individual traditions, adding to the cultural heritage of the United States as a whole. Most of the international community has adopted the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, but the United States relies on intellectual property laws, particularly the Copyright Act, to preserve cultural heritage. This comment explores the preservation of Lithuanian-American cultural heritage through the protection of copyright law with a modified standard for preserving and protecting intangible cultural heritage.
