The site allowed users to view movie trailers, as well as learn about new and upcoming movies at the box office. It was founded in San Francisco, California and was founded by Joe Greenstein and Saran Chari on January 20, 2006. Flixter has been the parent of Rotten Tomatoes since January 2010. On February 17, 2016, Flixster, including Rotten Tomatoes, was acquired by Fandango. In February 2016, Fandango acquired Flixster and began migrating flixster Video users to a rival service called FandangoNow, shutting down Flixster Video. On August 28, 2017, Flixster shut down the digital buyout and streaming video service and instructed customers to use Vudu. On December 22, 2017, the company sent a letter to customers saying that it would cease all operations in the United States from February 20, 2018. Beginning in late January 2018, visitors Flixster.com were asked to download the Flixster app or were redirected Fandango.com. They were also aimed at continuing to watch videos and redeem digital codes through Vudu. In February 2018, the Flixster site no longer functioned and instructed users to Fandango.com. Flixster Video's website and mobile applications, including UltraViolet, streaming and download services, are still available in various other countries, such as Canada. Flixster account holders will later send any purchased content to their competitor Vudu. In June 2019, Flixster announced the closure of its streaming video services in all countries that Flixster Video operates outside the U.S. on October 31, 2019 due to the UltraViolet shutdown. Customers in these areas were encouraged to move their content to Google Play, although Flixster warned users that due to rights restrictions, not all videos purchased from the Flixster library would be streamed according to the country. Between November 2006 and January 2007, the number of daily page views viewed by Alexa Toolbar users increased from less than 20 million to about 50 million. Kwantcast reported that the number of global daily page views for Flixster.com reached 8,331,961 on January 23, 2008 and dropped to 1,325,685 by July 5, 2008. Alexa stopped. Daily page views through June 2008; from mid-December 2007 to mid-June 2008, the number of page views for Flixster as a percentage of the required clarifications decreased by almost two-thirds. The first of these apps was released in June 2007 on Facebook. In March 2008, the MySpace app followed, with 3,923,506 in July 2008. This made it then the second most popular app on the MySpace platform. In addition, Flixster has also developed applications for Bebo and Orkut. Android, Blackberry, iOS, Windows Phone Mobile and Desktop Platforms In August 2008, Flixster released an iOS app, an iOS app, allows users to access Showtimes movies, reviews and trailers. MRAs and Their Impact on Decision-Making Sharon Allman and Jenny Lee-De Medeiros Abstract : The purpose of this research was to examine whether young adults (aged 18-32) look at user- and/or critic-generated movie review aggregates (MRAs) to decide which film to watch, or whether other factors impact their decision-making. The literature on this topic most notably shows a correlation between highly rated movies and better box office results, a preference for MRAs, and potential market benefits of MRAs. This research, which fo- cused on the North American context, contained both quantitative and qualitative methods in the form of an online survey, focus groups, and key informant interviews. The results in- dicate that MRAs are not the preferred method to decide what movie to watch, and instead factors such as family or friends’ recommendations and marketing decisions of the film most affect young adults’ decisions about which films to watch.
