That was not right, as John was the originator of the muscle car idea of a big engine in a small car. Most of these writers nowadays are probably young and were born after the 1964 GTO created a huge sales sensa- tion. However, I’m sure they can quote the lines from all three “Back To The Future” movies that had John’s last car, the DeLorean DMC-12, as the time traveling star. Below is the front cover of the 1964 Pontiac GTO sales brochure and its original ad text. As you can see, John was way ahead of his time with his 1964 GTO. This was DeLorean’s original time machine. The handling was improved with the addition of a late model Monte SS gear- box. This cut the steering ratio down by a third. The front and rear sway bars were also increased to the max diameter. The front is a 1.5” and the rear is 1”. The bars keep the car more level and the sway at a minimum. This GTO is also 1.5” lower than stock. This cuts down under-chassis airflow and gives the more aggressive stance. This lowered stance is achieved with lower custom-made springs and drag air bags in the rear to prevent any potential wheel hop.
