By April 15, 2018, the project had benefitted a total of 360,000 residents and tourists including 45% female. Tourist satisfaction has increased from the baseline 70% in 2016 to 74% in 2017. Conservation works of three cultural heritage (CH) sites are under implementation and are expected to be completed by the end of 2018. In terms of implementation progress, technical design documents of almost all the physical investments have been completed. Out of the total 27 Bank- financed contracts, 14 have been procured and the rest are on track to be procured. Another 22 contracts have been procured through counterpart funding as part of the project. Appropriate sites were selected for the temporary sediment stockpile and the tourism information center and thus relevant pending issues from previous missions were satisfactorily resolved. The PMO and PIUs, under strong leadership of the municipal government, are implementing the project at full speed with coordinated efforts. All the four components progressed significantly. Under Component A of Cultural Heritage (CH) Conservation, all the design documents have been completed, except for the design of tourist information center to be completed by July 2018. Required approvals from the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) were obtained for conserving all the CH sites under the component except one subproject awaiting SACH approval. Under Component B of Water Environment Improvement, among the three civil works contracts, a large contract on dredging of the moat was awarded and the works commenced. The contract on water body connection is under procurement. The bid of the largest contract on constructed wetland and embankment is expected to be published in May 2018. Under Component C of Transport Improvement, the successful installation of 28 bus stop kiosks and operation of the 30 clean-energy buses have doubled the ridership and improved satisfaction levels. Two large civil works contracts were awarded and commenced. Under Component D of Project Management and Capacity Building, all the five contracts were procured. The Project Management Company (PMC)has improved project management. Consultants have been hired for studies on historic city conservation and regeneration as well as and historic city traffic management. Three training sessions and one technical workshop were conducted in the past six months for capacity building.
