Eleven ostracod species were identified in the genera Cytherella Jones, Cytherelloidea Alexander, Eocytheropteron Alexander, Semicytherura Wagner, Paracosta Siddiqui, Buntonia Howe, Soudanella Apostolescu, Leguminocythereis Howe and, probably, Pataviella Liebau. The planktonic foraminifera are represented by the genera Guembelitria Cushman, Parvularugoglobigerina Hofker, Woodringina Loeblich and Tappan, Heterohelix Ehrenberg, Zeauvigerina Finlay, Muricohedbergella Huber and Leckie, and Praemurica Olsson, Hemleben, Berggren and Liu. The ostracods and foraminifera analyzed indicate an inner shelf paleoenvironment for the studied section. Blooms of Guembelitria spp., which indicate either shallow environments or upwelling zones, were also recorded reinforcing previous paleoenvironmental interpretations based on other fossil groups for this basin. -

Se discute su determinación como Galianemys, de los estratos Kem Kem, pero este género se basa predominantemente en caracteres craneales. No es posible ubicarlos dentro de las dos especies conocidas hasta ahora, Galianemys emringeri o Galianemys whitei. También es imposible una comparación con los géneros Hamadachelys (Podocnemidade) y Dirquadim (Euraxemydidae), conocidos esclusivamente por su cráneo. Palabras clave: Testudines, Bothremydidae, Galianemys sp., Cenomaniense, estratos Kem Kem, S. Marruecos. ABSTRACT: From Cenomanian sediments of South Morocco a frontal plastron lobe and an isolated peripheral might become discussed with Kem Kem members of Galianemys (Bothremydidae), but that genus is based predominantly on cranial characteristics. A more detailed assignment to the two previously known species Galianemys emringeri or Galianemys whitei using carapace features is not possible. A comparation with the only skull taxa Hamadachelys (Podocnemididae) and Dirqadim (Euraxemydidae) is impossible also. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 52 (1): 137–154. Stupendemys geographicus (Pleurodira: Pelomedusoides: Podocnemidae) is a giant turtle from the Miocene of Vene− zuela and Brazil. The bone histology of the carapace of two adult specimens from the Urumaco Formation is described herein, one of which is the largest of this species ever found. In order to determine phylogenetic versus scaling factors influencing bone histology, S. geographicus is compared with related podocnemid Podocnemis erythrocephala,and with fossil and Recent pelomedusoides taxa Bothremys barberi, Taphrosphys sulcatus,“Foxemys cf. F. mechinorum”, and Pelomedusa subrufa. Potential scaling effects on bone histology were further investigated by comparison to the Pleistocene giant tortoise Hesperotestudo (Caudochelys) crassiscutata and the Late Cretaceous marine protostegid turtle Archelon ischyros. A diploe structure of the shell with well developed external and internal cortices framing inte− rior cancellous bone is plesiomorphic for all sampled taxa. Similarly, the occurrence of growth marks in the shell ele− ments is interpreted as plesiomorphic, with the sampled neural elements providing the most extensive record of growth marks. The assignment of S. geographicus to the Podocnemidae was neither strengthened nor refuted by the bone his− tology. A reduced thickness of the internal cortex of the shell elements constitutes a potential synapomorphy of the Bothremydidae. S. geographicus and H. crassiscutata both express extensive weight−reduction through lightweight− construction while retaining form stability of the shell. -

E. occidentalis Wells, 1944, Hydnophora latefundata Gregory, 1895, Stephanocoenia marylandica (Conrad, 1841), Trochocyathus (T.) collignoni (Alloiteau, 1958) and T. (Platycyathus) sp. as well as redescriptions of Cladocora sp., Stephanocoenia pernambucensis Fernandes, 1978, Stylophora silicensis Weisbord, 1973 and Paracyathus rugosus Vaughan, 1900. Currently accepted facies models, sequence stratigraphy characterizations, and stable-isotope data of carbon and oxygen are reviewed. The carbonate cement of the Itamaracá Formation sandstones shows carbon- and oxygen-isotope ratios consistent with a shallow-marine depositional environment: δ18O ranges from -0.8 to –2.7‰ PDB, and δ13C ranges from +1 to +2‰ PDB. Within the Itamaracá Formation, a maximum fl ooding surface at the Campanian/Maastrichtian transition has been identifi ed. During the Maastrichtian, a Highstand System Tract was deposited, which shows an increase in temperature and marine bioproductivity as recorded by stable-isotope values (δ18O from –3 to –5‰ PDB, and δ13C values of –1.2, -0.3, 0.1 and +2.3‰ PDB). Just below the K/Pg boundary, the O-isotope signal indicates three warming phases, alter- nating with four cooling phases. -
