s I arrived at the theatre close to eleven o’clock on the premiere night of Gatsby, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The lines waiting to go into the Amovie were, as most would say, pitiful. You could tell some fanatics who dressed for the occasion were just as shocked at the lack of people who had arrived. So of course I was skeptical from the very beginning. I had no reason to be skeptical though. From the moment I walked in and sat down, to the opening allusions of the movie that coated the screen in majestic gold lines, I knew this movie would do Fitzgerald’s book justice. The characters in the movie were picked to perfection. in my opinion, Leonardo Dicaprio nailed the character of Gatsby. From the way he carried himself, to the sly smile, and those sea blue eyes. He is who I had imagined Gatsby to be. Daisy too was portrayed perfectly. She was someone so self centered and spineless that it made you want to scream. Her indecisiveness drove the viewer mad as you watched the events unfold before your eyes. To my surprise the book and the movie really were not that far off from one another. The only twist in it being Nick Carraway’s journal entries while in therapy were what created the actually book in the movie. Nick’s character played a major role in this movie in steering the way your emotions turned from one direction to another. NIck carraway’s perspective and the way he transformed as the events in the movie took place gave the viewer a better understanding of the deterioration of everything that once was so full of life. Although nothing could ever take the place of the original masterpiece of Fitzgerald’s original work, The Great Gatsby movie was everything I had imagined the book to be. With parties larger than life, emotions on a roller coaster and Leonardo Dicaprio. The Great Gatsby was none other than a success.

Iron Man 3 takes place after the alien battle in the box-office hit “The Avengers.” Tony Stark [Robert Downey Jr.] has not been himself and often has anxiety attacks when someone mentions “New York” [a.k.a. the alien battle]. He also begins to worry about his love, Pepper Potts [Gwyneth Paltrow], and her safety and is frightened that he may lose her. Everything he fears becomes reality, thanks to the international terrorist, The Mandarin [Ben Kingsley]. There’s also scientist Aldrich Killian [Guy Pearce], who still has hard feelings against Tony after he ditched him on a rooftop in 1999. Other notable performances include Colonel James Rhodes, “Rhodey” [Don Cheadle], who is Tony’s best friend. Rhody makes his debut in this film as the Iron Patriot, the government-issued iron man. Beautiful Creatures One secret could change so much. A curse. A girl. Love that shouldn’t be. Surprises around every corner. This is just the beginning to the Beautiful Creatures novels [four in total]. Ethan Carter Wate dreams about a girl, whose face he never sees. He feels haunted by the seemingly real dreams that occur every night. When Lena Duchannes moves into Gatlin County’s most infamous plantation, Ethan Wate is unusually drawn to her, and he doesn’t know why. It seems as though the two of them have a secret connection, but of what? Co-authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl have joined together to create the Beautiful Creatures series. There are so many gripping plot twists and a great deal of characters. The best characters are Ethan Wate and Lena Duchannes, the lovers, Aunt Marian the librarian who is more, and Amma, the motherly figure. This is an intriguing series. All have their own turns, like a roller coaster in reading. You feel transported when you open one. You start reading about the adventures about a young caster. On her sixteenth moon, or birthday, Lena Duchannes will be claimed for either the Light, the better, or the Dark, the worse. Born from the ultimate Catalyst, Lena must be claimed on her sixteenth moon. There is a curse on the Ravenwood family that states that all female casters will go Dark. Congratulations Hoover Seniors Class of 2013 With the year coming to a close, we have reached the time where we must say goodbye to our seniors. We have much to thank our seniors. For all of their knowledge that they have passed down, we can’t help but find ourselves somewhat saddened by their moving on to a new chapter in life. For four years, the seniors have walked the halls, and now, their big moment has arrived. It is their time to receive the thanks and admiration they all deserve. We have been blessed to have such great seniors in school. At The Viking Views, we have six senior staff members who have taught us what it means to be student journalists. We at The Viking Views would like to sincerely thank the 2013 senior class for all that they have given us and for impressions that they have left us with. ith the track season coming to an end soon, winning and fierce competition is on every athlete’s mind. However senior Kath- Wleen Fletcher, who has been high jumping for three years, is not only a fierce competitor but she also really enjoys jumping for new heights. However it’s not just all one big competition for her. She enjoys many things about high jumping. “I like how close we all get,” she said. “And how we have inside jokes, and being the tallest girls on the team.” Although every event in track is very competitive, for Fletcher some of her favorite moments in high jump were just having a good time with her teammates. “My favorite memory was when we all messed around and have fun,” she said. “And doing flips on the high jump mat.” Junior Julie Worley high jumps with Fletcher and explains Fletcher’s attitude while competing. “She’s always positive,” Worley said. “We feed off of each other, if she’s doing good then I am too.” Worley and Fletcher have not only been teammates for the past three years but have also been good friends off the track too. “She’s always making me laugh,” Worley said. very spring, the lacrosse team begins their season they have been training for all winter. For seniors, it will be the last Eseason they ever play for the Hoover lacrosse team. This season marks the end of Bryan England’s high school la- crosse career. England started playing lacrosse when he was nine years old. He was introduced to the sport through his dad, who was the coach of the middle school lacrosse program. “It’s weird because it will be the last year I will play an orga- nized sport, but it is exciting and fun,” he said. England’s had a couple goals for the season. His goals were to beat Jackson, have a winning record, and make a run in the play- offs. Even if all of his goals were not met, he is still happy to be a member of the Hoover lacrosse team. As a senior role model, the underclassmen look up to England, according to fellow teammate, senior Jeff Porter. “He has taught the younger kids how to have fun and play at the highest level possible,” he said. “He always making sure the team is ready to play before every game. He is also making sure everyone is having a good time at practice.”
