Indicative of the baton-passing Country is famous for when it comes to “Mt. Rushmore” artists is the conspicuous absence of longtime core artists Garth Brooks and George Strait. Brooks placed five songs on the list in 2010, two in ‘11, and one last year. The final Garth song to come off this year, “Friends In Low Places,” has been a gold mainstay on Country radio for more than 20 years. George Strait had four on this list in ‘10 and two in ‘11. Last year’s sole Strait title, 1999’s “Write This Down,” comes off in 2013. Alan Jackson remains with this year’s No. 4 song, but has trended down too, from seven titles in ‘10 and two last year. Toby Keith still has six songs on the list, but 1993’s “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” isn’t one of them. Check out the entire Top 100 on page 10.
