THE GREAT NECK PUBLIC SCHOOLS Proudly presents the 2018 Great Neck Summer Instrumental Music Program Monday, July 2 - Friday, August 3 A five-week program at South Middle School for students who want to learn to play a musical instrument or to continue to play music during the summer. All students accepted, beginner to advanced levels. This program will be offered to students entering grades 4 - 12, who are residents of the school district. A. Beginner “Get Started” class will be offered to students with no prior experience on a band or orchestra instrument. - grades 4 - 9 B. Intermediate “Make Music” (Band or Orchestra) is open to all elementary/middle school instrumentalists - grades 4 – 9 with at least one year of playing experience. C. Jazz Band is open to all students in grades 6 – 12 (or by audition) who play Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Piano, Electric Guitar, Bass, Tuba, & Drum Set. Class meets Monday through Thursday only from 12:30pm-2:00pm. D. Chamber Music is open to all String, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion students in grades 6 – 12, or NYSSMA level 4, 5, 6). Class meets Monday through Thursday only from 2:30pm-4:00pm. All students must be available for the entire five-week program and will perform in a concert at the end of the five-week program. Email: [email protected] GREAT NECK PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2018 Summer Instrumental Music Program (516) 441- 4851 Dear Parent or Guardian: The Great Neck Public School District is pleased to announce the start of its Summer Instrumental Music Program. The program will run from Monday, July 2 until Friday, August 3, 2018. Our program, now in its twentieth year, will offer three different levels of musical performance: The Beginner Program will offer daily group lessons for beginners entering the 4th grade in September through the 8th grade. This program is open to all students with no prior music experience. The instruments offered for this program are: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, violin, viola, cello & double bass. The Beginner Brass class will be offered period 1 from 8:30AM - 9:30AM. The beginner Woodwinds & Strings will be offered period 3 from 10:30AM - 11:30AM at South Middle School. If your child is interested in starting an instrument in September, this is a great way for your child to get a head start into the new school year. Your child will be reading and playing music by the first day of class in September. Spaces are limited. Tuition is $346.00 per class before Friday, May 25th. After Friday, May 25th, the fee increases to $409.00 per class. The Intermediate Program will offer a group ensemble called “Make Music”, and is open to all students from grades 5-9 with at least one year of playing experience on their instrument. This group is open to all instrumentalists. The students will learn about playing in an ensemble. Music to be played will come from the classical, jazz and popular era. The group will help choose the music to be played and performed. This class will meet period 2 from 9:30AM - 10:30AM. Tuition: $346.00 per class before Friday, May 25th. After Friday, May 25th, the fee increases to $409.00 per class. The Advanced Program will offer a Jazz Band & Chamber Music. These classes meet Monday- Thursday only. These groups are open to the moderate to advanced musician. They are open to students entering grade 6 through grade 12. Any student below grade 6 can audition for placement in these groups. The Jazz Band is open to Flutes, Clarinets, Saxophones (Alto, Tenor, Bari), Trumpets, Trombones/Baritone Horns, Electric Bass/String Bass/Tuba, Electric Guitar, Piano/Synthesizer, Drum set. The Chamber Music class is open to all String, Woodwind, Brass & Percussion players. These classes will meet 4 times per week (Mon. - Thurs.). The Jazz Band will meet from 12:30PM - 2:00PM and chamber music from 2:30PM - 4:00PM at South Middle School. Tuition: $560.00 per student per class before Friday, May 25th. After Friday, May 25th, the fee increases to $570 per class. Our program is based on enrollment. Please enroll early to guarantee your space. All students must supply their own instruments. Instruments may be rented from local vendors listed in this student registration packet or speak to your school music teacher about a summer instrument loan. Registration is now available online! Our free evening concert brought out a capacity house! Music ranged from chamber to large ensemble, beginner to advanced, classical to jazz. We have something for everyone! Make music a part of your summer plans!
