SAINT THERESA SCHOOL A NOTE FROM MONSIGNOR HELMICK

Last Tuesday evening, I celebrated Mass for the Sixth Grade Students of Saint Theresa’s School as they take leave of our parish school.

As I write this note for the June 17 Sunday Bulletin, I am thinking about the fact that Saint Theresa School has been such a blessing for the thousands of children who have attended the school and for their families. I cannot say how often I meet people who tell me how grateful they are for the school itself, how much they appreciate the excellent foundation they or their children have received for their future education, for their future work or profession, for life itself. Just last Monday, I was speaking with a man who graduated from Saint Theresa’s School in 1978 who told me that once a month he and a group of 20-25 men who were his classmates gather for a meal, talk about their ad- ventures in Saint Theresa’s School, and have a great time together- - - there have been many bonds of friendship established in Saint Theresa’s School.

Over and above all the subjects taught so well by past and present teachers in our school, there is the ongoing instruction in the Faith of the which has sustained our students, past and present, in their relationship with Christ Our Savior and Lord. Saint Theresa’s School has been and continues to be a place of daily common prayer and it has been and continues to be a school where the students gather for Mass on the First Friday of each month during the school year. In our school, the students are not only taught about Christ, but they are assisted in their efforts to come closer to Christ.

And so, my thanks today go to Jean Leahy, our extraordinary school Principal, to our excellent self- sacrificing teachers, to the staff, and to everyone connected with the school - - - including our pa- rishioners who support our school so generously- - - for making the school the wonderful blessing it has been and is for so many students and families.

Reverend Monsignor William M. Helmick Pastor
