Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston will hold its Chapter. Every six years we meet to evaluate the previous six years and Ann Moynihan, CSJ Director Dplan for the next six years. We also elect new leadership who will be responsible for the implementation of the direction set by the Cheryl Duggan Chapter Body. A Chapter meeting is a sacred time in the life of a Coordinator Congregation, a time when all members put all concerns on hold and Mary Black, CSJ pray for “openness to the stirrings of the Spirit.” Consultant The theme for Chapter this year is “DARE TO DREAM.” Since Rosemary Brennan, CSJ our founding in 1650 in LePuy, France to our arrival in Boston from Council Liaison Flushing, New York in 1873, the women on whose shoulders we Joanne Gallagher, CSJ stand, time and time again, dared to dream, dared to dream big. Our Director of Communication challenge today is to do likewise. Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston 3 From the Office of Mission Advancement Along with the two sisters profiled in this issue of Connecting for the wonderful work they have done, there is an article about a special group that joins us in mission and ministry. This group adds the letter A to CSJ. It stands for associate. You have seen them mentioned on these pages before, and if you use our cards, you may notice that “The Sisters of Saint Joseph and their Associates” will pray for the person you wish remembered. These women and men join us, immersing themselves in the special gift and spirit that is the essence of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. They are not vowed members, though they make annual promises. They remain with their families, and in their occupations, but they join with us in prayer, ministry, and spirit. This is a special year for us, sisters and associates few weeks ago, a person approached a together, for we are celebrating our associates’ 25th group I was with, looking for Sister Ann. anniversary. I hope that you will learn more about this I introduced myself and said that I was wonderful group of people, as you read the article, Aa Sister of Saint Joseph of Boston. “Oh!” the and perhaps consider becoming a CSJA. person replied, “My favorite three letters, CSJ”, referring to the letters standing for Congregation of St. Joseph. The explanation followed, telling of the life-enriching influence that the sisters provided. It is a story that many sisters hear frequently. Personally, it always leaves me in awe at the profound, and sometimes simple ways the sisters who preceded us went about their everyday life doing things that effected the lives of many individuals and families. Even as a child, I heard many stories from my own family. One was about my grandfather, who lived across the street from the parish school, and was the youngest of four children who had lost their mother. He was taken into the first grade, though he was too young, so that his father, was able to work. Stories like this are multiplied over and over again, about Sisters looking after the needs of “the Dear Neighbor.” We always work with and for others. You, our friends, family and donors, increase what we are able to accomplish in our ministry. Your names are listed on these pages, but more importantly, you are each recorded in our hearts and in our prayers of thanksgiving. 4 CONNECTING If It Doesn’t Donor Day, June 5, 2011 Say Boston, It’s Not Ours We have, once again, received phone calls and notes from our friends, relatives, and donors saying that they have received solicitations from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield. We share many things with our Springfield sisters: history, tradition, friendship and a passion for mission. We do not share finances. We do not share our mailing list with any other group. Nonprofits can purchase mailing lists from magazines and companies. The Springfield sisters do, and that is why you receive their mailings. Our mailings have our logo and the mailing address is: Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston 637 Cambridge St. Brighton, MA 02135. Please check to make sure your gift reaches its intended destination.
