As we know from our life experiences, that isn’t always easy. All the speakers that you will hear from today at our 4th Boston Catholic Men’s Conference will share accounts of how they trusted in the Lord and he blessed them and helped them bless others. This Conference is special because it comes just 11 days after the 200th Anniversary of the Archdiocese of Boston (April 8, 2008). Together, all of us here today, celebrate the legacy of faith that was handed on to us and that we are called to hand on to others. As Martin Doman will sing in “You Are Our Legacy”, the Conference theme song, we acknowledge that Christ himself is the central part of that Legacy. This Conference also comes in the middle of Pope Benedict XVI’s apostolic visit to the United States. That visit presented many logistical issues for this Conference, but together with Cardinal Sean, we decided it was fitting to have the Conferences this year during the visit so that we could pray for its success. We also thought that it would provide an opportunity to integrate the Holy Father’s first major address in Washington into our program. Please take a chance today to look around you and soak in the experience of being surrounded by over thousands of other Catholic men! It is a true blessing to see so many brothers in faith. We encourage you to reach out and meet some new men today. Pulling off a Conference like this takes a lot of support. We would like to thank: • President Leahy and all those at Boston College that worked very hard to make this event a success. What a blessing it has been to work with such highly talented and committed people! • All of you here today that invited a friend, brother or relative • Our 100+ event day volunteers • All of our 200+ parish captains who worked tirelessly to spread the word locally • All the 140+ priests of the Archdiocese and surrounding Dioceses who are here for Confession • Our speakers for their commitment to being here with all of us! • George Martell (www.georgemartell.com) for providing event photography & marketing • Father Reed and the team from CatholicTV for all their help with promoting the Conference • Antonio Enrique and the staff from TheBostonPilot.com • Deacon Pat Guarini and the team of Mass MCs for helping with the closing liturgy • The many benefactors that stepped up this year to keep this Conference going.

Record Group I.06.01 John Joseph Williams Papers, 1852-1907 Introduction & Index Archives, Archdiocese of Boston Introduction Biographical Sketch Scope and Content Content List (A-Z) Subject Index Introduction The John Joseph Williams papers held by the Archives of the Archdiocese of Boston span the years 1852-1907. The collection consists of original letters and documents from the year that Williams was assigned to what was to become St. Joseph’s parish in the West End of Boston until his death 55 years later. The papers number approximately 815 items and are contained in 282 folders arranged alphabetically by correspondent in five manuscript boxes. It is probable that the Williams papers were first put into some kind of order in the Archives in the 1930s when Fathers Robert h. Lord, John E. Sexton, and Edward T. Harrington were researching and writing their History of the Archdiocese of Boston, 1604-1943. At this time the original manuscripts held by the Archdiocese were placed individually in folders and arranged chronologically in file cabinets. One cabinet contained original material and another held typescripts, photostats, and other copies of documents held by other Archives that were gathered as part of the research effort. The outside of each folder noted the author and the recipient of the letter. In addition, several letters were sound in another section of the Archives. It is apparent that these letters were placed in the Archives after Lord, Sexton, and Harrington had completed their initial arrangement of manuscripts relating to the history of the Archdiocese of Boston. In preparing this collection of the original Williams material, a calendar was produced.

ARCHDIOCESE OF BOSTON PARISH CLOSING MANUAL “Rebuild My Church” VERSION 1.0 Tab 1 – Letter from Archbishop O’Malley May 25, 2004 Dear Father and your parish staff, Closing one parish makes me sad, but closing many is truly heartbreaking. Never would I ask this of you if I were not certain that it was necessary. Please know that your feelings of sorrow, frustration and anguish are normal and completely understandable. As Catholics we love our parishes and our parish churches, and we will grieve together as we endure the hard work of closing. This decision to close your parish was not made easily; rather it was made after a careful consideration of the entire Archdiocese and with much consultation with many people. Our intentions were to be fair to everyone; I am sorry for you and your parish that what has been such an important part of your lives can no longer continue. I know many parishioners are having difficulty seeing where this is all going to take us, but all must get ready to start rebuilding the church in Boston. We are ready to move forward with some serious thinking and some hard work that will enable us to rebuild from a solid foundation. We need to be morally solid, spiritually solid and financially solid in order to give life to our hopes and dreams for our faith community. We really do need to put more energy into our youth than into our heating bills, and more effort into reaching out to those who need us than to fixing buildings that are beyond repair.

  • Koch Foundation 2011 Annual Report
Mission Statement Carl Koch’s belief that he was “just a steward of the fi nances given by God to use on His behalf” inspired the commitment he and his wife, Paula, made to founding the Koch Foundation in 1979. The Foundation’s goals are to strengthen and to propagate the Roman Catholic faith by providing grant support for a wide variety of evangelization eff orts. In considering applications, major emphasis is placed on sound but fi nancially needy evangelical programs. The Koch Foundation is international in scope with no geographical preference. Carl and Paula Koch 2 Letter From The Executive Director I have been blessed in my life to have had several family members who chose to dedicate their lives in service to God, so there has never been a time when I did not visit my relatives and see a cousin dressed all in black with a worn yet beloved Rosary tucked carefully into her simple belt. I can remember as a young child Sister teaching me to say the Rosary and telling me that whenever I attended Mass I was to pray the Rosary. That memory has stayed with me into adulthood and, when I became a mother, the Rosary took on a special and personal meaning. I found I was praying the Rosary more often and usually for something concerning my son and family. I began to realize that I needed the solace I could only fi nd by praying the Rosary. Like many parents, in addition to my work at the Foundation I am also my son’s chauff eur, carting him to and from various sports events.

It is clear that the Archdiocese, though facing many of the challenges of the economic shortfalls of recent years, is very much present and active in the 144 cities and towns we serve. Since its inception, the Church has been called to both respond to the needs of the present moment, through spiritual and pastoral ministries, and to build for the future through evangelization. As the Archdiocese prepares for the first phase of Disciples in Mission, the new Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan, this approach of providing for the current needs of the Catholic community today while establishing a strong foundation for growth will guide our efforts.

  • This Topic, Surrounded by Thick, Dark, Gloom, May Be the Most Obscure of All Topics in Modern History
This topic, surrounded by thick, dark, gloom, may be the most obscure of all topics in modern history. Towards the end of September, 2015, the dusk gradually disappeared and I saw before me the Falcon, looking like a flying eagle. Note that I interpret this according to my knowledge and available sources. This topic, like The King of Polar Light and His Secrets , suddenly came to me, I had no plans to write about it. In order to solve this problem, I again use human wisdom and I refer to The Turin Shroud, the Mystery of all Mysteries , pp 2-3. Before I continue, let us look back to the Stockholm Castle on March 8, 1844, when the Falcon God, Charles John XIV, died in his bed. King Charles John XIV’s speech before he died on March 8, 1844, at the Stockholm Castle. History tells us this of him before his death: Charles John XIV was very verbal, but he never learnt to speak Swedish. Up until his final moment, he kept his strength of both mind and body. His last illness started in January, 1844: gangrene in a foot. On his 81 st birthday, at six o’clock in the morning, he suddenly fell ill from “an attack of blood pressure in the head and vomiting” and on March 5 he had a stroke followed by total coma. The king passed away after having been ill for 42 days at 3.30 p.m. on March 8. Just before his death he awoke, whispering the name of his son Oscar.

  • Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Facebook Page
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Community December 6, 2020 Second Sunday of Advent The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception On Tuesday, we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This reflection provides a better understanding of this holy feast day. “Mary’s Immaculate Conception is a direct consequence of her Divine Maternity. St Anslem of Aosta wrote: ‘Assuredly, it was fitting that the Virgin be beautified with a purity than which a greater cannot be conceived, except for God's. For, toward her, God the Father was so disposed to give His only Son who was naturally one and the same common Son of God the Father and of the Virgin.’ (De conceptu virginali et originali peccato, XVIII) This link between the privilege of Divine Maternity and Mary’s Immaculate Conception results also in her superiority with respect to us. She is a perfect image of the Church in heaven, the new triumphant Jerusalem, that won’t have any marks nor will there be pain and death. This is why today’s preface recites: '…she was to be a worthy mother of your Son, your sign of favour to the church at its beginning, and the promise of its perfection as the bride of Christ, radiant in beauty’. Also in heaven Mary is not and will never be only a disciple, but her Son’s most exalted. She is and will always be the Mother of God, the Mother of the Church, the Queen of the Angels and Saints. Therefore, the preface of the Mass adds: ‘…You chose her from all creatures to be our advocate with you and our pattern of holiness.’ Mary was Immaculate because she had to be the Mother of God.
