Mission Statement Carl Koch’s belief that he was “just a steward of the fi nances given by God to use on His behalf” inspired the commitment he and his wife, Paula, made to founding the Koch Foundation in 1979. The Foundation’s goals are to strengthen and to propagate the Roman Catholic faith by providing grant support for a wide variety of evangelization eff orts. In considering applications, major emphasis is placed on sound but fi nancially needy evangelical programs. The Koch Foundation is international in scope with no geographical preference. Carl and Paula Koch 2 Letter From The Executive Director I have been blessed in my life to have had several family members who chose to dedicate their lives in service to God, so there has never been a time when I did not visit my relatives and see a cousin dressed all in black with a worn yet beloved Rosary tucked carefully into her simple belt. I can remember as a young child Sister teaching me to say the Rosary and telling me that whenever I attended Mass I was to pray the Rosary. That memory has stayed with me into adulthood and, when I became a mother, the Rosary took on a special and personal meaning. I found I was praying the Rosary more often and usually for something concerning my son and family. I began to realize that I needed the solace I could only fi nd by praying the Rosary. Like many parents, in addition to my work at the Foundation I am also my son’s chauff eur, carting him to and from various sports events.

  • Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Facebook Page
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Community December 6, 2020 Second Sunday of Advent The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception On Tuesday, we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This reflection provides a better understanding of this holy feast day. “Mary’s Immaculate Conception is a direct consequence of her Divine Maternity. St Anslem of Aosta wrote: ‘Assuredly, it was fitting that the Virgin be beautified with a purity than which a greater cannot be conceived, except for God's. For, toward her, God the Father was so disposed to give His only Son who was naturally one and the same common Son of God the Father and of the Virgin.’ (De conceptu virginali et originali peccato, XVIII) This link between the privilege of Divine Maternity and Mary’s Immaculate Conception results also in her superiority with respect to us. She is a perfect image of the Church in heaven, the new triumphant Jerusalem, that won’t have any marks nor will there be pain and death. This is why today’s preface recites: '…she was to be a worthy mother of your Son, your sign of favour to the church at its beginning, and the promise of its perfection as the bride of Christ, radiant in beauty’. Also in heaven Mary is not and will never be only a disciple, but her Son’s most exalted. She is and will always be the Mother of God, the Mother of the Church, the Queen of the Angels and Saints. Therefore, the preface of the Mass adds: ‘…You chose her from all creatures to be our advocate with you and our pattern of holiness.’ Mary was Immaculate because she had to be the Mother of God.

Carl & Paula Koch 2 LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR For some Catholics, the use of music determines which Mass or even which parish they attend. Some are more interested in attending a traditional Mass with a full choir singing well known hymns, others may be drawn to parishes which incorporate Gregorian Chants in their services, while still others prefer a ‘contemporary’ Mass with praise and worship music. As a person from New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz and a city that heavily identifies as Catholic, music has always been part of my family’s worship experience. Attending Catholic schools in New Orleans in the early 1960s, learning hymns in Latin, French, and English was considered part of our religious education, and we sang many of these hymns in Mass. I remember as a young teen what was considered one of the highlights of the year in the Archdiocese of New Orleans: Midnight Mass at St. Jude’s Church near the French Quarter.
