As countries and their unions come and go around the world, it is a tribute to the Constitution the Founders of our Nation composed and others amended through the centuries that we stay as one nation under God, ever striving to offer liberty and justice for all. Inasmuch as we are all created equal, let us pray that all “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights...among these Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness,” as the Declaration of Independence declares, may enjoy them fully in our United States of America! +++ As I mentioned in last week’s bulletin, next weekend Pamela Farrales, a graduate of Transfiguration Academy in 2008 and recent college graduate in Boston, who has decided to devote the next few years of her life to missionary outreach to students on campus at Northeastern University as part of St. Paul’s Outreach and Brotherhood of Hope, will be asking your support, preferably through a monthly pledge. St. Paul’s Outreach has already strengthened the Catholic faith of a number of students on some of the college campuses in our own Archdiocese, as well as bringing several who were away from faith-practice back. I am one of those backing Mela with a monthly pledge. I pray that others who are able may consider doing the same. Msgr. Richard Arnhols, Pastor Reflection on Today’s Readings The seventy-two are sent totally dependent upon God and mutually dependent upon others, carrying only their experience of Jesus and the power to heal. If rejected, they are to shake the dust off their feet but still announce that God’s kingdom is at hand. Some say this means that if the message will be received, it will happen when people are ready. When they return, they learn to boast not in themselves, but that their “names are written in heaven.” Their boast is God and the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Pope Francis reminds us that as Church we are to proclaim the good news of Jesus, “so that faith in him might spread to every corner of the earth.” (Evangelii Gaudium, 19). We are missionaries whose lives proclaim the joy of the gospel. We are dependent upon God for everything: faith, talents, the ability to develop our talents, and life. We are mutually dependent upon one another. No one is an island, even in our highly individualistic society. When sick, I need someone to help me. When in need, people turn to others for assistance. God’s comfort is known by how we accept our mission to live the gospel and share the gifts God has given us. We can invite others to God’s kingdom but we are not in control of how people respond. As St. Francis de Sales taught, do all through love, nothing through fear or force. Take time to deepen your union with God in prayer. Give thanks for God’s gift of life and the gifts you’ve been given. Ask for help where you are in need. Turn to the Body of Christ to fill in the gifts you lack. Now go and proclaim the gospel one person, one day, one moment at a time. “Loving God, nurse me with the food of your love and mercy, so that strengthened by you, I can proclaim the gospel of your Son, Jesus, whose cross I bear and whose message I live. Amen.” Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure! “He said to them, “the harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few…” Luke 10: 2 As Catholics we are all called to serve in ministry. However, many of us are unsure how to use our talents and gifts to build God’s Church. Talk to God and ask Him what He wants you to do. The next time one of your fellow parishioners asks you to help or join a committee, it may be the answer to your prayer.

In considering applications, major emphasis is placed on sound but fi nancially needy evangelical programs. The Koch Foundation is international in scope with no geographical preference. Carl and Paula Koch 2 Letter From The Executive Director I have been blessed in my life to have had several family members who chose to dedicate their lives in service to God, so there has never been a time when I did not visit my relatives and see a cousin dressed all in black with a worn yet beloved Rosary tucked carefully into her simple belt. I can remember as a young child Sister teaching me to say the Rosary and telling me that whenever I attended Mass I was to pray the Rosary. That memory has stayed with me into adulthood and, when I became a mother, the Rosary took on a special and personal meaning. I found I was praying the Rosary more often and usually for something concerning my son and family. I began to realize that I needed the solace I could only fi nd by praying the Rosary. Like many parents, in addition to my work at the Foundation I am also my son’s chauff eur, carting him to and from various sports events.

  • Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Facebook Page
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Community December 6, 2020 Second Sunday of Advent The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception On Tuesday, we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This reflection provides a better understanding of this holy feast day. “Mary’s Immaculate Conception is a direct consequence of her Divine Maternity. St Anslem of Aosta wrote: ‘Assuredly, it was fitting that the Virgin be beautified with a purity than which a greater cannot be conceived, except for God's. For, toward her, God the Father was so disposed to give His only Son who was naturally one and the same common Son of God the Father and of the Virgin.’ (De conceptu virginali et originali peccato, XVIII) This link between the privilege of Divine Maternity and Mary’s Immaculate Conception results also in her superiority with respect to us. She is a perfect image of the Church in heaven, the new triumphant Jerusalem, that won’t have any marks nor will there be pain and death. This is why today’s preface recites: '…she was to be a worthy mother of your Son, your sign of favour to the church at its beginning, and the promise of its perfection as the bride of Christ, radiant in beauty’. Also in heaven Mary is not and will never be only a disciple, but her Son’s most exalted. She is and will always be the Mother of God, the Mother of the Church, the Queen of the Angels and Saints. Therefore, the preface of the Mass adds: ‘…You chose her from all creatures to be our advocate with you and our pattern of holiness.’ Mary was Immaculate because she had to be the Mother of God.

Carl & Paula Koch 2 LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR For some Catholics, the use of music determines which Mass or even which parish they attend. Some are more interested in attending a traditional Mass with a full choir singing well known hymns, others may be drawn to parishes which incorporate Gregorian Chants in their services, while still others prefer a ‘contemporary’ Mass with praise and worship music. As a person from New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz and a city that heavily identifies as Catholic, music has always been part of my family’s worship experience. Attending Catholic schools in New Orleans in the early 1960s, learning hymns in Latin, French, and English was considered part of our religious education, and we sang many of these hymns in Mass. I remember as a young teen what was considered one of the highlights of the year in the Archdiocese of New Orleans: Midnight Mass at St. Jude’s Church near the French Quarter.
