Britain’s finest artistic gymnasts will take on the world’s best at the 2013 Glasgow World Cup as the full line-ups reveal a star-studded cast of competitors for the event on December 7th at Emirates Arena. Leading the British campaign for World Cup glory will be Scotsman Daniel Purvis and his Olympic team bronze medal winning compatriot Sam Oldham, whilst on the women’s side Ruby Harrold one of the most talked about gymnasts on the world scene, will aim to end her year on a high note. Facing up to the British contingent will be the 2012 World Cup champion Elizabeth Price, who returns with US teammate and World Championship parallel bars bronze medal winner John Orozco. Two-time Olympian and former all-around World Champion Vanessa Ferrari from Italy and Romania’s 17 year old sensation Larisa Iordache will also be ones to watch out for in the women’s event. The men’s field will also include the 2013 European all-around bronze medal winner Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine and Belarus’s Andre Likhovitskiy, who placed 4th on high bar, just behind Sam Oldham at the 2013 European Championships. Dan Purvis is looking forward to being back on home soil and competing in front of a passionate Scottish crowd ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games, “I’m so happy to be competing in the Glasgow World Cup once again in my home country, it’s going to be a great atmosphere like last year I’m sure. It’s also great to have the event ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year; hopefully it will get everybody in the spirit.” Ruby Harrold will be making her all-around World Cup debut and is excited to face the world’s best, “I’m really excited to have been invited to compete at the Glasgow World Cup and can’t wait to be performing in front of a passionate home crowd. The all-around World Cup is one of the biggest events of the year with an amazing field of gymnasts. I’m hoping to put in a good display to end what has been a really positive 2013 for me.” Councillor Archie Graham, Chair of Glasgow Life and Executive Member for the Commonwealth, said: “Glasgow is the only city in the UK to host a round of this year's World Cup Gymnastics and we’re proud that such a prestigious event is returning to the city. “The line-up of competitors is truly world-class and shows, yet again, why Glasgow is one of the world's top ten sports cities.” The all-around competition sees the male gymnasts compete across six apparatus and the women over four, with every routine counting to the final total. The event takes place on the 7th of December at Emirates Arena, Glasgow, with a new compact competition format that offers spectators non-stop action throughout a single mixed session between 1.00pm and 4.30pm.     LA GINNASTICA ARTISTICA Ilenia Federica La ginnastica artistica è una disciplina della ginnastica e uno sport olimpico. L'atleta deve essere dotato di forza, velocità ed elevata mobilità articolare. Alcuni elementi, quelli principali, come la verticale, possono essere appresi anche in età adulta. STORIA DELLA GINNASTICA ARTISTICA La ginnastica artistica è uno sport dalle origini molto antiche.Le culture più importanti che la praticarono sono quella Cinese, quella Egizia e quella Micenea. Per quanto riguarda i Greci, la ginnastica fu prima praticata dai Dori. Però gli antichi avevano un altro concetto di ginnastica artistica: essi non la intendevano praticata con gli attrezzi, bensì basata sugli esercizi che corrispondono all'attuale atletica leggera, alla lotta, al pugilato. I Romani non accettavano la ginnastica perché la ritenevano propria degli schiavi o degli stranieri. Solo dopo il Mille la cultura fisica riacquistò importanza. Nel XIX secolo, F.L. Jhan inaugurò a Berlino la prima palestra pubblica all'aperto. Egli consigliò vari esercizi sulla corsa e sul salto, poi introdusse l'uso degli attrezzi, tra cui quattro femminili e sei maschili. In comune ne hanno due: il corpo libero e il volteggio. - CORPO LIBERO Il corpo libero (floor, FX) maschile prevede una serie di esercizi senza accompagnamento musicale o coreografia, a differenza di quello femminile. Si svolge su una pedana quadrata ampia 12x12 metri, con un metro di sicurezza intorno. - VOLTEGGIO Nel volteggio (valut, VT) il ginnasta corre lungo il tumbling che è lungo 25 metri, salta su una pedana posizionata davanti alla tavola e dopo aver appoggiato le mani sull'attrezzo esegue il volteggio vero e proprio.

Who would have thought even 10 years ago that we would be hosting an English Championships with so much depth of talent? The calibre of gymnasts really demonstrated the strides forward made by British Gymnastics and their work in partnership with coaches and clubs.

    03/10/13: Britain’s Max Whitlock and Daniel Purvis produced outstanding displays in the men’s all-around final at the 2013 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp to finish in 4th and 7th places respectively. The British boys both completed clean routines over the gruelling six apparatus and remained composed in the tense atmosphere to put themselves right up amongst the world greatest gymnasts The gold medal was taken once again by Japanese sensation Kohei Uchimura, the Olympic champion winning his 4th straight world all-around title with a supreme performance to score a huge 91.990 points teammate Ryohei Kato the silver with 90.032 and Fabien Hambuechen of Germany scored 89.332 for the bronze. Max said: “I’m very happy with that, coming in to my first World Championships and leaving with 4th place, competing amongst the very best its fantastic. Going up first on pommel there was some pressure but I went all out for it and I’m really happy to have got through it, and the whole competition, cleanly.” Dan said: “I’m absolutely delighted with that performance to be up there in the top 8 in the world is amazing, that’s probably the hardest all-around competition I’ve ever done with a really high standard from everyone. I can’t really pick any major faults to be honest, of course there always small things but overall I’m really pleased and proud of that performance” Max began his competition on his favourite piece pommel, on which he is Olympic bronze medallist.
