03/10/13: Britain’s and Daniel Purvis produced outstanding displays in the men’s all-around final at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp to finish in 4th and 7th places respectively. The British boys both completed clean routines over the gruelling six apparatus and remained composed in the tense atmosphere to put themselves right up amongst the world greatest gymnasts

The gold medal was taken once again by Japanese sensation Kohei Uchimura, the Olympic champion winning his 4th straight world all-around title with a supreme performance to score a huge 91.990 points teammate Ryohei Kato the silver with 90.032 and Fabien Hambuechen of scored 89.332 for the bronze.

Max said: “I’m very happy with that, coming in to my first World Championships and leaving with 4th place, competing amongst the very best its fantastic. Going up first on pommel there was some pressure but I went all out for it and I’m really happy to have got through it, and the whole competition, cleanly.”

Dan said: “I’m absolutely delighted with that performance to be up there in the top 8 in the world is amazing, that’s probably the hardest all-around competition I’ve ever done with a really high standard from everyone. I can’t really pick any major faults to be honest, of course there always small things but overall I’m really pleased and proud of that performance”

Max began his competition on his favourite piece pommel, on which he is Olympic bronze medallist. Since the Games Max had continued to work on more and more complex skills and he produced an amazing routine, his difficulty score of 7.2 the most difficult of the championships to date. His routine including a handstand mid routine in to flares, he dismounted to score a huge 15.630.On rings Max continued his fine form, bettering his qualification with a perfectly stuck landing of his full twisting double layout dismount for 14.266. On vault he performed the 2.5 Yurchenko with nice height but with a jump forward on landing to score 14.733.

In place 5th after 3 of 6 apparatus Max produced a good parallel bars routine with nice work swinging on one bar a good double pike dismount with small hop for 14.533. On high bar a notoriously nervy piece of apparatus Max remained composed with good pirouette work just small hop on his double twisting double back dismount to score 14.600. Ending on floor, on which he is European champion, Max produced a top quality routine, superb

twisting tumbles and his trademark flair work scoring 15.266 to finish his sensational competition, just off the medal podium with 89.031.

Dan Purvis joined Max in the same group and got off to a good start on pommel, some slight form loss but he held it together well for a solid score of 14.333 to get his competition underway. On rings Dan showed great strength and control with just a small step back on his double-double dismount to score him 14.341. On to vault and Dan continued to grow in to the competition, a superbly executed 2.5 Yurchenko landed dead centre scored him 15.033.

Placed nicely in 8th spot at the “halfway” point Dan went on to parallel bars , a perfect handstand on one bar, good double pike dismount to score 15.000, one of the top scores of the competition. A really confident performance from Dan on high bar with a perfect double-double dismount scored him 14.266. On floor Dan produced a fantastic routine demonstrating his incredible high level of consistency to score 15.133 for a total of 88.106.

With the top 8 gymnasts from this competition invited to compete in the FIG World Cup series which visits Glasgow’s Emirates Arena on Saturday December 7th - fans should be in for a treat.
