Execution 2015-2016

The project included the City of Hamburg nominated the ensem- ble Speicherstadt and Kontorhaus District with Chilehaus for the UNESCO World Heritage List. As part of the application, a manage- ment plan was needed to set out future objectives and conservati- on policies towards a sustainable development of the site. The ma- nagement plan identified the areas of synergy and conflict as well as planning priorities. Parts of the nomination dossier were also provi- ded. Hence, the management plan uses as a strategic tool to enable the preservation of the Outstanding Universal Value of the site.

In addition to the definition of World Heritage property and the corresponding buffer zones, the catalog of measures and projects was developed in cooperation with the City of Hamburg, in order to link the preservation of the World Heritage Site with the city‘s other planning objectives and to ensure their compatibility with the UNESCO World Heritage List and Guidelines. Moreover, the management plan sets out the necessary structures for the coor- dination and administration of the future UNESCO World Heritage property.
