  • Floetry to Feat Rap Artist Common on Supastar
Floetry To Feat Rap Artist Common on SupaStar Written by Robert ID1831 Tuesday, 23 August 2005 06:50 - It's more than their beauty. It’s more than the passionate vocals of Marsha Ambrosius (the Songstress) and elegant spoken word of Natalie Stewart (the Floacist) that has fans captivated everywhere since FLOETRY first stepped on stage. The dynamic duo's incredible success is deeply rooted in their ability to appeal to all ages, races and genres of music lovers. The proof is in their long list of accolades and demand for appearances: six Grammy nods, six Soul Train awards perched on their mantle, a NAACP nomination for Outstanding New Artist, a standing ovation at BET's Walk of Fame: Tribute to Smokey Robinson, impressionable performances at the Essence Music Festival & Def Poetry Jam (HBO). FLOETRY known to make music that speaks to listeners'' mind, body, and soul are now ready to release a masterpiece to stand the test of time and raise the bar in music with their third CD Flo''Ology on Geffen Records. Plus, they''ve enlisted super producer Scott Storch and Hip-Hop's savior rap artist Common on their 1st single, "SupaStar". Fresh off the Kool Philosophy Tour with The Roots and the Sugar Water Festival Tour alongside Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, FLOETRY are quick to point out the differences between Flo''Ology and the topics covered on their 6X Grammy-nominated debut Floetic and its follow-up, Floacism (Live). This time, the duo's lyrics more specifically span the spectrum of romantic relationships.

  • Delaware's Bri Steves Stakes a Claim As Female MC
Delaware’s Bri Steves stakes a claim as female MC TyLisa C. Johnson, The News Journal 2:58 p.m. EDT August 5, 2016 Wearing a black and red Temple University basketball jersey dress, bamboo earrings and faux dreads piled high, Brianna Stevenson and her friends cruise the streets of Philadelphia in creamcolored seats of a baby blue vintage convertible El Camino. In the next scene of Stevenson’s video for “Summer’s Mine,” she sits with DJ HVNLee (pronounced heavenly) in lawn chairs in the back of a pickup truck. (Photo: Submitted) “Ain’t nobody dope as me, I dress so fresh, so clean. All my girls look so damn good, them boys be checking for my team,” she sings in the heavily ‘90s influenced hiphop jam that’s an anthem to the joys of summer. It’s part of Stevenson’s campaign to break into the top ranks of music as the newest, fiercest female MC. A rising hiphop star in Philadelphia, she lived in Delaware for eight years before becoming a Temple student in Philadelphia, where she is now known by her stage name Bri Steves. The song also pays homage to 1991’s “Summertime” by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, hip hop stars from Philly before Smith became a powerhouse Hollywood actor and Jazzy Jeff moved to Bear. She hoped they would notice, and Jazzy Jeff did. When Stevenson was doing an event with Kicks USA in July right after her single came out, her publicist sent a video from DJ Jazzy Jeff praising her new jam.

Contents Contents i 1 Queen 1 2 David Bowie 3 3 Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff 4 i 1 Queen What you are about to read is the story and monumental impact of a band that consisted of 3 academics and one art student who challenged the music industry and broke rules while pushing limits to redefine popular rock and other genres of music that we know and love today. This band is named is Queen and consists of Freddie Mercury (Lead vocalist, pianist), Brian May(Lead guitarist and vocals), Roger Taylor(drums and vocals), and john deacon(bass guitar) Before Queen was known as one of the most popular bands ever to join the industry it was known originally known as Smile and only had Roger Taylor and Brian May as members and was formed in 1968. The soci- olinguistics and psycholinguistics behind Marshall Mathers and his music, though, are deserving of a PBS documentary. Eminem capitalizes on his lin- guistic genie with as much savvy as he does on his alter egos. He “flips the linguistics,” as he boasts in “Fast Lane” from Bad Meets Evil’s 2011 album Hell: The Sequel. As its title suggests, this essay focuses initially on the fact that rap is deeply rooted in black English, relating this to Eminem in the context of much information on the language of (Detroit) blacks. This linguistic excur- sion may not endear me to readers who hate grammar (or to impatient fans), but it ultimately helps to understand how Eminem and hip hop managed to adopt each other.

presents A Black History Celebration Activity Guide Hip Hop MannCenter.org/VoicesofHope Table of Contents About Hip Hop 3 DJing & Scratching 3 DJing & Scratching / Dance 4 How to Write Your Own Rap 5 Activity 6 Answer Key 7 Performance by Chill Moody 8 2 About Hip Hop Hip hop is a type of cultural art form, and it’s a lifestyle that uses rap as a form of expression and integrates other art forms - like break dancing, graffiti, and DJing – into a cohesive style. Rap is a vocal (voice) technique that uses rhyme, rhythm, and personal stories in making this particular type of music. Rap is one of the most important forms of American popular culture and is an art that falls somewhere between singing and chanting. The ability to rhyme different words is the engine that drives a good rap song. Today we will learn a bit of hip hop history, learn the basics of building your own rap, and take a look at some of the dances that derived from the start of hip hop. Photo of Chill Moody by Mark Wrice The history of hip hop culture and rap started in African American and Puerto Rican neighborhoods in New York City during the early 1970s. Rap music was a way to give a voice and identity to young people who felt like no one was listening to them. The first rapper was a Jamaican DJ named Kool Herc, who used two turntables, or record players, to create the sound for parties in New York. Some of the first major hip-hop acts from our city of Philadelphia were Schooly D, Will Smith, and DJ Jazzy Jeff, followed by The Roots, Meek Mill, Tierra Whack, Photo of Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff and Eve.
