M G Wood moved that the application be refused, this was seconded by P Bales. A vote was taken, 10 in favour of refusal, 1 against. The motion in favour of refusal was carried. Reason: 1. Insufficient information was submitted with the application relating to the need for the proposal in order that the Local Planning Authority could assess adequately the impact of the proposed development having regard to the impact of non-essential development in the countryside. In the absence of that information it had not been possible to demonstrate that the proposal would comply with Development Plan policies and/or other material considerations. 2/2006/0807 Extension of existing silage storage area, Rose Farm, Deferred for Little Broughton, Cockermouth. a site visit The officer’s recommendation was approval. I W Francis moved that the application be refused, this was seconded by M Davidson. A vote was taken, 12 in favour of refusal, 1 against. The motion in favour of refusal was carried. Reason: 1. The Local Planning Authority considered that the proposed replacement windows and door, by virtue of their modern design and appearance, would be detrimental to both the character of the Article 4 property itself and the character and setting of the Maryport Conservation Area. The proposal was therefore contrary to Policies CO2 and CO13 of the Allerdale Local Plan (1st Alteration, May 2006) and Policies ST3 and E38 of the Cumbria and Lake District Joint Structure Plan 2001-2016 (Modifications, September 2005). 2/2006/0965 Erection of wooden stables and storage for feed and Approved equipment, The Garden Fields, Allonby, Maryport. J Mounsey moved that the application be deferred for a site visit, this was seconded by M Davidson. P McCracken moved that the application be approved this was seconded by J Minto. M Davidson moved that the application be approved, this was seconded by R Munby. M G Wood moved that the application be refused, this was seconded by I W Francis. A vote was taken, 3 in favour of approval, 9 against. The motion in favour of refusal was carried. Reason: 1. The proposal would result in the increased use of a substandard access in circumstances where the developer was unable to ensure that the access was upgraded. The development was therefore contrary to Policy HS9 of the Allerdale Local Plan (First Alteration, May 2006) and Policy ST3 of the Cumbria and Lake District Joint Structure Plan 2001-2016 (Modifications, September 2005). 2/2006/1044 Revised application for new dwelling, Glenmore, Approved Ullock, Cockermouth. The motion in favour of approval was carried. 2/2006/0841 Proposed two storey extension, 3 New Houses Fauld, Refused Oughterside, Wigton. M G Wood moved that the application be refused, this was seconded by R Munby. A vote was taken, 13 in favour of refusal, 0 against. The motion in favour of refusal was carried. Reasons: 1. The proposed development would be harmful to the visual amenity and had an overbearing impact on the residential amenities of No. 2 New Houses Fauld, due to its scale and massing; this would be contrary to Allerdale Local Plan Policy HS12. 2. The proposed development would have contributed significantly in overshadowing to the neighbouring property No. 2 New Houses Fauld, this would be contrary to Allerdale Local Plan Policy HS12. 3. The proposed development would have had harmful effect on the character and appearance of the dwelling due to its scale and massing; this would be contrary to Allerdale Local Plan Policy HS12. 2/2006/0915 Change of use of garage for wedding cars, The Approved Masters House, Hayton, Aspatria. Newsletter No 33 - September 2004 Lorton & Derwent Fells Local History Society Brackenthwaite Buttermere Embleton Loweswater Mockerkin Pardshaw Wythop www.derwentfells.com This somewhat faded photo of the Lorton yew came from Ted Petty, but we don’t know who the people are, what the occasion was and when it was! Can anyone help please? 2 Editorial A few weeks after this Newsletter is out, the book Wordsworth and the famous Lorton yew tree should be published. This is a book about the tree itself and the Wordsworth connection comes in because it will be 200 years ago in September that William and his sister Dorothy visited the tree which led to the famous poem. The editors of the book are Derek Denman and Michael Baron and Michael has carried out a lot of research into the Wordsworth side of the story, helped by the Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere. Derek has investigated the history of the tree - following up on Ron George’s previous work - and, at the recent AGM in June, they both gave a presentation of some of their findings. Michael suggested to me that the results of his research could be printed in the Newsletter and, now that my arm has recovered, I’m pleased to say that the first part starts in this issue, written in Michael’s entertaining and personal style. And so we say farewell (do you remember those James A Fitzpatrick [was it?] travelogues at the cinema?) to Mockerkin School, or rather I should say that we have the last part of Walter Head’s article on the school, along with a very sad picture of the old school building as it is today.

We formed the Aspatria Rural Partnership and decided to prepare this Community Action Plan. It aims to provide a strategic approach and to co-ordinate our actions through the delivery of an evidence-based action plan. This is intentionally a succinct document, which belies the amount of work that went into its preparation. That work is captured in a background issues paper, which sets out the research and consultation that helped us define our objectives and actions. We now want to implement our plan and we welcome your input. If we have missed something that is important to you, then let us know. If you have any suggestions on the actions or if there is anything you can do to help implement them, please do get in touch.

Cumbria Classified (A,B & C) Roads - Published January 2021 • The list has been prepared using the available information from records compiled by the County Council and is correct to the best of our knowledge. It does not, however, constitute a definitive statement as to the status of any particular highway. • This is not a comprehensive list of the entire highway network in Cumbria although the majority of streets are included for information purposes. • The extent of the highway maintainable at public expense is not available on the list and can only be determined through the search process. • The List of Streets is a live record and is constantly being amended and updated. We update and republish it every 3 months. • Like many rural authorities, where some highways have no name at all, we usually record our information using a road numbering reference system. Street descriptors will be added to the list during the updating process along with any other missing information. • The list does not contain Recorded Public Rights of Way as shown on Cumbria County Council’s 1976 Definitive Map, nor does it contain streets that are privately maintained. • The list is property of Cumbria County Council and is only available to the public for viewing purposes and must not be copied or distributed.
