The specialized and non-autarchic character of their economy, provoked that the nomads always experienced a need for external agricultural and handicraft products. Besides, successful nomadic states and polities created demand for the international trade in high value foreign goods, and even provided supplies, especially silk, for this trade. Because of undeveloped social division of labor, however, there were no professional traders in any nomadic society. Thus, specialized foreign traders enjoyed a high prestige amongst them. It is, finally, argued that the real importance of the overland Silk Road, that currently has become a quite popular historical adventure, has been greatly exaggerated. Territory – from the Altai mountains in the east to the Black Sea in the west, from the upper Yenisei in the north to the upper Amu Darya in the south. At the beginning of the VI century, the territory of Kazakhstan came under the authority of the Turkic Kaganate. Turkic Kaganate is the first state in Kazakhstan. Its basis was the union of Turkic-speaking tribes, which was headed by the kagan. The state, based on tribal traditions, was based on military-administrative management. It was part of a system of relations with such major states of the time as Iran and Byzan- tium. China was a tributary of the kaganate. The title in many cultures played the role of an important indicator of the international prestige of the state. As is known, only members of the Ashin clan had the sacred right to supreme power in the Turkic Kaganate. Possession of one or another title, occupation of one or another place in the political and state structure of society, depended on many circumstances, the main of which was belonging to a particular tribe in a tribal union, clan in a tribe, etc. Social deter- minants (titles, ranks, positions), as the most significant components of ancient Turkic anthroponomy, contained complete information about the social status of the bearer of a given name, its origin and membership in a particular layer of society, data on its place in the political structure of society and the administrative structure .

The ancient history ofthe formation of the Hungarian people as an ethnos is undoubtedly interest- ing for nomadic civilization and settled nations. Their distinctive difference from other European nations is in their deeply rooted ethnic history. If we lookin addition at the proto-Hungarian language formed 1 millennium BC, then Hungarian’s historical origin dates back to 2,500 BC. Nonetheless the first true written sources appear in the IX century. The close connection of this ethnos, called Magyars in general history, with the nomadic Kypchaks required difficult turning points in historiography. If we look at the history of Magyars before the IX century, we see that they need to be considered from the point of view of a single nomadic civilization. However, historical data on the western part of the Hungarians who set- tled on the banks of the Danube and Tissa were preserved only in Western chronicles. And the historical data on eastern hordes were found in Arab and Persian sources.

Introduction Since the sixth century, the Bulgars had known intermittent contact with the Christians of the surrounding nations, whether as merchants or prisoners-of-war or through diplomatic relations. During the later eighth and early ninth century, the Christian population in Bulgar lands increased so much that Christians were rumored to have influence at the court of Khan Krum (802-814); they were also persecuted under Khan Omortag (814-31). The Bulgars continued to remain "officially" pagan until the reign of Khan Boris, who came to power around 852. Several factors may have led Khan Boris to assume a more favorable attitude towards Christianity. First, Christianity offered a belief-system that transcended — at least potentially — cultural or ethnic boundaries and thereby offered a means not only to unify Bulgaria's disparate populations but also to secure legitimacy and respect with Byzantium and the West. The ideology of Christian rulership also enhanced the position of the prince vis-à-vis his subjects including the often contentious boyars. Furthermore, Boris' sister had converted to Christianity while a hostage in Constantinople and may have influenced her brother. Finally, Boris himself seems to have been attracted to Christian beliefs and practices, as evidenced by the seriousness with which he pursued the conversion of his people. Boris' move towards Christianity seems to have begun in earnest with the opening of negotiations in 862 between himself and Louis the German for an alliance against Ratislav of Moravia.

In this article, we consider the views of respondents on the industrial development of mineral deposits on the example of the Nefteyugansky district, Yugra. The analysis of views regarding the development of mineral deposits rep- resents a comparative sociological study. It summarizes the results of a poll conducted in 2015 on the territory of Nefteyugansk district and earlier studies done in 2008 and 2012. The results of polls showed that most respondents had positive sentiments to the industrial mining. On the other hand, in contrast to 2008, in 2015, the proportion of people, who opposed the commercial develop- ment of mineral resources, got bigger. At the same time, most respondents believed that industrial mining resulted in environmental degradation of the area (district) of their residence. Fax: 410-502-7544. 1 Abstract The question of Jewish ancestry has been the subject of controversy for over two centuries and has yet to be resolved. The “Rhineland Hypothesis” proposes that Eastern European Jews emerged from a small group of German Jews who migrated eastward and expanded rapidly. Alternatively, the “Khazarian Hypothesis” suggests that Eastern European descended from Judean tribes who joined the Khazars, an amalgam of Turkic clans that settled the Caucasus in the early centuries CE and converted to Judaism in the 8th century. The Judaized Empire was continuously reinforced with Mesopotamian and Greco-Roman Jews until the 13th century. Following the collapse of their empire, the Judeo-Khazars fled to Eastern Europe. The rise of European Jewry is therefore explained by the contribution of the Judeo-Khazars. Thus far, however, their contribution has been estimated only empirically; the absence of genome-wide data from Caucasus populations precluded testing the Khazarian Hypothesis. Recent sequencing of modern Caucasus populations prompted us to revisit the Khazarian Hypothesis and compare it with the Rhineland Hypothesis.

    New data on the ancient settlement of Ak-Beshim (Chu River Valley, Northern Kyrgyzstan) Bakyt Amanbaeva Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyz Republic Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic KG Abstract According to the archaeological data, a series of ancient settlement appeared on the territory of the Chu River Valley (Dzhety-Suu, Semirechie) in VI-VIII centuries. Some of them were composed of the citadel and shakhristan and transformed later (IX-XI centuries) into the territories surrounded with one-two rings of so-called “long walls” with considerable size in the perimeter. Of these cities was Suyab, which ruins correspond to the ancient settlement of Ak-Bashim known as a capital of three Turkic Khaganates in VI-X centuries: Western Turkic, Türgesh and Karluk. Scientific studies were implemented by Kyrgyz (National Academy of Sciences) and Janapese (National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo and Teikyo University since 2016) archaeologists. Excavation site No 15 put in place on the territory of shakhristan No 2 revealed the concentration of grey-clay tile, which corresponds to the remains of the collapsed wall of the building. Probably, the revealed construction may the component of the garden-park ensemble of the Tang Dynasty Period. Analysis of the aerial photo of 1967 and further geophysical studies of the territory of the “second” Buddhist temple have shown that it was a part of the larger complex with the walls of 140-150 m in length. As the result of the excavation site No 18 the revealed temple was occupying only its south-western corner, while another construction the role of which has to be identified during the further archaeological studies, was situated nearby.
