Question on Notice No. 1910 Asked on 16 November 2011 MR GIBSON asked the Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport (MR REEVES)— QUESTION Will the Minister provide a breakdown of official crowd attendance at the government sponsored Gold Coast 600 event on 21-23 October 2011 including (a) total crowd numbers for each day, (b) number of corporate ticket holders, (c) numbers and categories of tickets provided to the Queensland government and (d) details of all people that attended as members and/or guests of the Queensland government? ANSWER The Bligh Government recognises the valuable impact of major events on the Queensland economy and the potential these events create to promote Queensland to Australia and around the world. In October, the Gold Coast played host to the Armor All Gold Coast 600, the only V8 Supercar event featuring international drivers competing against regular drivers. The event was a tremendous success, with an increase in attendance of 11,500 spectators from 2010, with over 180,000 attendees at this year’s event. The breakdown for attendance on each day is listed below: Friday 57,903 Saturday 63,502 Sunday 60,081. I can advise the Member that the Bligh Government, as major sponsors of the Armor All Gold Coast 600, hosts a corporate box on each of the event days to which key Government partners, Members of Parliament and stakeholders are invited. I was pleased to invite some of the Gold Coast Members of Parliament, including local Members John-Paul Langbroek MP, Member for Surfers Paradise and Peta-Kaye Croft MP, Member for Broadwater. The Member for Cleveland also attended the Queensland Government box during the Armor All Gold Coast 600. I attach for the Member’s information, a copy of the list of invited corporate guests of the Bligh Government. The Member should note that this is not the attendance list and only the proposed list of invited guests for this event. Additionally, 60 General Admission tickets were provided for each day of the event. These were distributed to organisations such as the Create Foundation—which advocates for children and young people in care, and the Starlight Foundation—who work with seriously ill children and their families throughout Australia and Events Queensland. The Bligh Government knows that events like the Armor All Gold Coast 600 are good for fans, good for the jobs and great for the local economy. Our investment in major events in Queensland is a demonstration of our commitment to bring vital event dollars to Queensland and support the tourism industry.
