Itinerario: Naxos-Paros-Antiparos-Despotiko-Sifnos-Kimolos-Milos-Folegandros-Sikinos- Ios-Skinoussa-Naxos 7 Agosto – 21 Agosto Imbarco in serata a Naxos. Dalla monumentale porta del tempio di Apollo, rivolta a ovest, si raggiungono gli intricati vicoli della Chora, con le sue piazzette e inattesi scorci. Da Naxos salperemo alla volta di Paros per approdare nel pittoresco porto peschereccio di Naussa, dove il mare arriva a lambire le case. Da qui, col vento in poppa, navigando tra le isole del piccolo arcipelago di Glaropunda, raggiungeremo Antiparos. Dopo una giornata trascorsa fra le baie turchesi nel sud di Despotiko prua su Sifnos, particolare caratteristica di questa isola è il numero di chiese: c’è una chiesa per ogni giorno dell’anno. Sull’isola trascorreremo la serata ad Apollonia, capoluogo di questa perla delle Cicladi, un grazioso paese arroccato su tre colline che dominano la vista del Kastro a strapiombo sul mare. Poco più a sud ovest ormeggeremo a Kimolos nella baia dorata di Prasonisi per poi giungere nel pomeriggio a Psathi. Il mattino seguente, dopo aver costeggiato le bianche spiagge a sud dell’isola raggiungeremo Milos, “l’isola dei colori”, nota grazie alla statua di Afrodite (Venere), scoperta nel secolo scorso. Le sue pareti rocciose, bianche, rosa, rosse, verdi e gialle creano un fantastico paesaggio in contrasto con i colori del suo mare dalle mille sfumature di azzurro. Sospinti dal meltemi rotta su Folegandros, qui regna una pace infinita, bouganville ed ibischi colorano i bianchi balconi di legno delle case. Nell’aria si sente al mattino il profumo del pane più buono delle Cicladi, il suo Kastro, una fortezza costruita nel 1210 dai veneziani è un villaggio nel villaggio dipinto di colori pastello. Prua su Ios, l’isola delle bianche spiagge con la sua Chora dominata da tre deliziose chiesette dalle caratteristiche cupole azzurre. Immancabile a Ios una sosta a Manganari bay nell’estremo sud dell’isola, cinque “idilliache” spiagge dorate dove trovare ridosso dal Meltemi e trascorrere la notte alla fonda. Il mattino seguente rotta sulla piccola e appartata Schinoussa: la sua calma atmosfera invita ad una passeggiata sotto le stelle al chiaro di luna. La tappa successiva ci regalerà una veleggiata di bolina nel canale fra Paros e Naxos dove rientreremo dopo una sosta nella baia di Prokopios. Mondovela s.r.l. The Small Cycladic Islands Project (2019): a comparative survey of uninhabited landscapes near Paros, Greece Alex R. Knodell1,*, Zarko Tankosic2, & Dimitris Athanasoulis3 The Small Cycladic Islands Project is a diachronic archaeological survey of several small, currently uninhabited islands, located in the Cyclades, Greece. In 2019 surface investigations focused on the multi-method, comparative documentation of 10 islets surrounding Paros, revealing oscillating patterns of use and non-use from prehistory to the present. Keywords: Greece, Cyclades, island archaeology, diachronic survey Introduction The Small Cycladic Islands Project is a new archaeological survey targeting the very smallest of the Aegean Islands. As a collaboration between the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades, the Norwegian Institute in Athens, and Carleton College, this three-year project (2019-2021) is undertaking archaeological surveys of several uninhabited islands in the vicinity of Paros and Antiparos; Sifnos, Serifos, Kythnos; and Mykonos, Syros, Tinos, and Andros. Human presence has been documented in the Cyclades as early as the Middle Paleolithic period (Carter et al. 2017). Permanent populations have been present since the Neolithic, and intense inter-island relations from the Early Bronze Age (Berg 2019). These relationships have been studied extensively with respect to prehistory, and increasingly for the Classical period and Byzantine times (e.g., Constantakopoulou 2007; Crow and Hill 2018). Yet the smallest islands in this network are little understood.
