Jantz Stadium (3,500) - Winfield, Kan. -Southwestern and Friends will renew their rivalry for the meet for the 82nd time in program history on Saturday with a 7 p.m. kick-off at Adair-Austin Stadium on the Friends University campus in Wichita, Kan. 2013 SOUTHWESTERN COACHING STAFF On the Field... -The Southwestern-Friends rivalry has been dominated by the Falcons over the last 10 years. Friends owns an 8-2 -Ken Crandall (Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator) record over the Moundbuilders in the last decade, but Southwestern stopped the bleeding with a 32-21 win over -Joe Pirillo (Offensive Line) the Falcons last season in Winfield. Adair-Austin Stadium has been an especially difficult place for Southwestern -Andrew Krause (Co-Defensive Coordinator) to win. Current Friends coach Monty Lewis was the last Southwestern coach to win in Wichita when he led the -Kevin Griffin (Inside Linebackers) Moundbuilders to a 33-13 win over the Falcons on Oct. 21, 2000. -Mark Scott (Special Teams) -Jordan Barrett (Wide Receivers) -Aside from a lapse against Peru State, the Southwestern defense has proven itself as a force to be reckoned with, -Branden Davis (Outside Linebackers) particularly against the pass. The Moundbuilders have forced 10 interceptions through the first three games of the season. Lorenzo Fouts is the leading interceptor in the nation, and has picked off four passes, including a 23-yard In the Press Box... pick-six that helped the Builders seal the 24-14 win over Kansas Wesleyan a week ago. Kaman Holt is on Fouts’ -Jimmie Tagg (Co-Defensive Coordinator) heals with three interceptions, while Jessup Bliven owns a pair of picks, both of which came in last week’s win. If -Logan Wyrick (Running Backs) a Falcon happens to fumble the football, Paul Mata is sure to be in the area. The junior linebacker has recovered -Nick Qualls (Tight Ends) three fumbles through the first three games of the 2013 season. -The Moundbuilder football program is closing in on a pair of milestones. Southwestern enters Saturday’s game with an all-time record of 499-438-53, and needs just one more win to post the 500th win in program history. The 2013 season will also mark the 1,000th game in program history. That will occur on Nov. 2 when the Builders host Saint Mary. • 1982 Moundbuilder
-" LP" ~ /D Ronda Rivers. along with many other students and organizations. follows the tradition of adding a rock to the pile in hopes of building another Mound. The traditional Moundbuilding Ceremony greets both old and new Southwestern students in the fall. Brad Smith tells the audience the story behind one of the monuments on the campus after the Moundbuilding ceremony. Tradition! Tradition! Why do Builders place big rocks and little rocks on an ever-growing mound? Why do we have a Jinx? Why do we have flags from around the world? Why do the four pillars of Christy Hall have special significance? The answer is .. Traditionl In four years Southwestern will celebrate its centennial. Many such traditions have bound Builders together through the years. Early during Freshman Orientation Builders place a rock either from home or from their favorite organization on the twenty-foot deep mound of rocks originally humorously designed to build our own "moun tain" in Kansas. From this practice comes the name "The Mound builders." When old Fairmount College (now Wichita State University) was defeated in a football game 11-3, a Southwestern student prepared a tombstone with the figure of a black cat, the word "Hoodoo" at the top and score underneath. From that time on for 14 successive years Fair mount couldn't defeat Southwesternl Then the black cat came to be called the "Jinx." For years Fairmount students used many evil ploys to destroy the Jinx, eventually succeeding by using dynamite and blowing the Jinx to bits. But the Spirit of the Jinx could not be defeated.

  • Football 2009 Media Guide
WARRIOR FOOTBALL 2009 MEDIA GUIDE A CULTURE OF CONSISTENCY Spend any time on the southwest corner of campus of Sterling College and one thing will apparent. Warrior football is always open for business. No matter the time of year, the direction the football program has taken over the past five years has made it what Jason Dannelly in the 2008 NAIA Football Rankings referred to as “one of the most consistently competitive programs.” Its not just good recruting, or just good coaching; it is a work ethic that head coach Andy Lambert describes as a deep, long-term month work ethic. That demands consistency; a 2009 FOOTBALL culture of consistency. SCHEDULE The past two years have been polar oppposites as far as offensive scheme has been concerned as the Warriors had to adjust the game with the personnel under center. The SEPTEMBER graduation of quarterback Tyler Degenhardt, the leading rusher for the Warriors in 2008 will no doubt change the running game, but the return of junior running back Rashard Colquitt who rushed for over 700 yards, not far behind Degenhardt, will ensure what Lambert refers to as “... 12 @ Southwestern 7:00 an athletic and versatile rushing attack.” Acquiring offensive lineman Chandler Keenan from Dodge City Junior College was a key pickup in bolstering an offensive line that assisted in a 19 @ Peru State 1:00 rushing game that posted over 220 yards per game average. 26 OTTAWA 6:00 “We are looking to be more balanced in 2009; most of that though is played out in the first 2-3 weeks of practice,” remarked Lambert.
