Interestingly, this technology was introduced to Japan through two routes. In the late sixteenth century, at approximately the same time as the Tensho¯ embassy, which left Japan in 1582 and returned in 1590, brought movable type technology from the West, it was also introduced from the Korean peninsula through a tragic event. I have clarified what kinds of books and cultures were created by this new technology, which was introduced across the seas between East and West. I have then added a discussion of the world of Meiji, focusing on regional culture. At this time, Japan was promot- ing rapid modernization or Westernization. In Nejime, on the O¯ sumi Peninsula at the southern tip of Kyu¯ shu¯ , there was a library established for the sake of improving the education of the local residents, so as not to fall behind the trends of the new era. Considering that, perhaps, there were similar examples in Korea that transcend national boundaries, I have looked back on such achievements of our forebears as they worked towards modernization.

論文 『年報人類学研究』第 Annual Papers of the Anthropological Institute Vol. 12 Vol. Anthropological Institute Annual Papers of the Kakure Kirishitan Gravestones in Nagasaki Settings Roger Vanzila MUNSI* This study provides an anthropological analysis of the most salient features of Kakure 12号( Kirishitan gravestones and landscapes in Nagasaki settings. The specific focus is on local 2021 patterns mirrored in the Kakure Kirishitan practitioners’ social contingencies, reinforce- ment history, and dynamically lived contexts. The synthesis suggests that Kakure Kirishitan ) survivors produced fundamental faith-practices, symbols of common cultural and religious identity, and cherished memories that have long established their gravestones as secondary ( 2021 sacred spaces of remembrance. The analysis, thus, reinforces the significance of the mate- ) rial and immaterial aspects highlighting the Kakure Kirishitan practitioners’ quintessential quest to idealize, establish, and maintain the human-divine harmony in their present locali- ties. In general, therefore, this study has provided a refined interpretive tool for demonstrat- ing how Kakure Kirishitan gravestones represent a specific sub-culture, often unspoken, but fully understood within a Christian and Japanese tradition. • Unzen-Amakusa National Park Became One of Japan’S First National Parks
Revive your zest for life in this refreshing retreat above the clouds Unzen-Amakusa In 1934, Unzen-Amakusa National Park became one of Japan’s first national parks. At the time of its 19 designation, it was comprised only of the Unzen area and known as Unzen National Park, however, in 1956 the Amakusa area was added. The park boasts spectacular landscapes, from the steam wafting from Mt. National Park Unzen to the seascapes of Amakusa which interweave islands and sea. The Unzen area is comprised of the mountainous region of the Shimabara Peninsula which consists of the Unzen volcanic group, including Mt. Fugen. From the many high vantage points there are excellent panoramic views with the sea stretching into the distance on three sides. The park tells the story of the dynamic origins of the earth and the resulting bounty of the land, and as such, Unzen Volcanic Area Global Geopark has been established on the Shimabara Peninsula, with the area within the national park as its core. The Amakusa area is an archipelago made up of 120 islands of varying sizes with diverse shorelines and seas inhabited by coral. At the heart of the Unzen area is Unzen Onsen Hot Springs, which has welcomed travelers and people of faith since ancient times to relax in its healing waters. Home to gods, Shugendo mountain asceticism, hot springs and seasonal vegetation, the mountains of佐賀県 Unzen brim with wonder. Heal your body in the hot springs gushing forth from the earth and awaken at dawn to birdsong. The majestic scenery and invigorating experiences offered by the park make this one of Japan’s original nature resorts.

Courtesy of Yoshie Yamada. Summary Unzendake is a stratovolcano in the central part of Shimabara Peninsula, where the Unzen graben developes in the est-west direction with the width of about 9km. The old volcanic edifice is located in the western part and the younger edifice in the east part. The Myoken caldera, which opens to the east and surrounds a group of young lava domes, including Fugendake, is located in the middle. The largest lava dome, MayuYama, is located even further east. The volcano consists of andesite and dacite lavas and pyroclastic materials. It erupted three times in recorded history, all eruptive activities are limited at Fugendake. Earthquake and geothermal activities are dominated in the western part. On November 17, 1990 (Heisei 2), phreatic eruptions began at the Jigoku-ato crater and Tsukumo-Jima crater of Fugendake. In May next year, a lava appeared at the Jigoku-ato crater and grew as a lava dome. The growth was accompanied by frequent pyroclastic flows. The SiO2 content of the lavas is between 55.3 and 66.6 wt.%. 1 (85. Unzendake) Photos Eruption began at Unzendake after the 198 years dormancy. Ash plume from the Byobuiwa crater behind the Jigoku-ato crater. Jigoku-ato crater is left, Tsukumo-Jima crater is right.
